5 Games To Play While You're Waiting For Mega Man 9 To Be Released On Xbox 360
Coonskin05 | 4:44 PM on 09.22.2008 18 comments

Now, if the red rings weren't bad enough to cope with, we 360 owners are the last to receive Mega Man 9. (Insert Y0j1mb0 comment here). However, I don't believe it's useful to sit around and mope, so I have came up with a few games available to us that are relevant to Mega Man 9.

5. Mega Man (NES)

You don't necessarily need to know the roots to play Mega Man 9, but wouldn't you like to? Mega Man was actually quite different than MM9, which you will be playing in a week and two days. It features point scoring, none of the Item/Rush powerups seen in later games, and only 6 Robot Masters instead of the standard 8. Although it is widely held that Mega Man is not as good as its successors, it is still important as the foundation of such an amazing series.

4. Duke Nukem 3D (XBLA)

Well, since you're not going to be playing MM9 this week, you might as well accept your substitution. That's right, instead of the new Mega Man, we receive a port of Duke Nukem 3D. While both Duke and Mega Man go "Pew Pew!", Duke looks a bit less boyish, and is obssessed with breasts instead of robots. While I would rather the XBLA release dates be reversed, at least Duke Nukem is retro in its own respect.

3. Mega Man Star Force 2: Zerker x Ninja (NDS)

The reason you need to play this is to see why Mega Man 9 was made. Because all of the other Mega Man games these days are shit, and have fuck all to do with Mega Man.

2. Mega Man 2 (NES)

Now, I am on record as saying Mega Man 3 is better than Mega Man 2, so this pick might surprise you. But, really, I feel that Mega Man 9 gives off more of a MM2 feel than anything else. The box art depicts Mega Man as an adult as the MM and MM2 boxes do, and the music is far and away more reminiscent of MM2 than anything else.

1. Castle Crashers (XBLA)

Because none of those twats that only own Wiis or PS3s have a chance to.

2) Mega Man 9 on PS3

I'm playing it now on my Wii, how it should be played with a controller shaped like a square. You're not truly going old school if you have four buttons on whatever controller you're playing.
Conrad Zimmerman's Destructoid Blog
@Cowzilla: Technically speaking, the NES controller had four buttons on it: A, B, Start, Select.
