I suck at games: Because my teammates suck.

You know it's true. How many times have you thought you were winning a match only to look at the score and realize that your team had half the opponents score. "WTF?! I have 15 kills and 3 deaths!" Then, you look at the breakdown and see that two of your teammates have 2 kills and 12 deaths each.

It's sad that I have to call out people for their shortcomings in videogames, but I feel it needs to be done. It happens too often that my team is dragged down by people who aren't deliberately "griefing", they just truly are no good. Or maybe they are. Maybe they just had a bad game. Honestly though, they stay in to the next round and repeat. If I ever have a round where I don't have a 2 to 1 KDR I do not stick in the lobby after the round is over. I tell my friends good night and try again the next day.

This is why I rarely roll on any game unless I am on with my unofficial clan. I don't think we've ever lost a round when there have been four or more of us on at one time. When we have five, we have numerous win streaks of more than 50 rounds.

Faith in your teammates is something that games are now encouraging in all multiplayer rounds it seems. It is very rare that one person is able to carry a team. Everybody has to do their part to win, and it seems that some people are not up to the task. So why do they stay? Is it because they enjoy it? Or is it because they just don't care?

I'm inclined to think it's the latter. I have berated the slackers on my team numerous times and have found a fairly common response to my rants. "You care about this game too much."

Of course I f*cking do!!!!! That's why I'm playing! I'm trying to win! Why would you play competitive multiplayer with a minimal intent of actually winning? Is it just me? Is this approach to competitive multiplayer beyond the comprehension of anybody else?

Nothing worse than getting a team that just runs around like a bunch of headless chickens, then lose interest and start betraying one another.

So I can see where your coming from but sometimes I do shit in a game and don't get into the flow it's not exactly nice when some guy who is more experianced (who I shouldn't have been paired up with in the first place..) has a go at you for being a bit crap. Not like I was doing it on purpose.

I like too win as much as the next guy but don't be jerk about it. It is after all a game at the end of the day and there no need to get your panties in a twist.

You know what... not everyone buys a game on release then plays it 24/7. Some people actually game because they've worked hard all day at a crappy job, come home... and just want to relax for an hour or two. Others actually play more than one game and may play lots of different games. Still others buy a game well after release.
Yeah, people do play online competitive games and really don't care if they win.

Do you lead by going lone wolf then yelling at your teammates for being idiots?... or do you lead by trying to nicely help out new people... by trying to get the team to act as a team?

Personally I love assholes who yell at everyone for being losers and not knowing how to play. I usually immediately stop what I'm doing and sit my ass down in a comfy spot (I usually go to sniping) and tell them to go ahead and win the game for us. Why do I do this?... because they've sucked the fun out of the game and I want to irritate them as much as they are irritating me.

Yes, it's childish.... but no less childish than being "that" asshole that figures they have the right to call everyone else out. You want serious... play clan ladder games - that's why they exist.

No offense... I know this is a monthly musing and you may not actually be that asshole... but there are lots of them around.

It's about trying your best to win, not about the winning itself.

Pretty much what Elsa said. I know I'm not good at FPS, but I still enjoy hopping on TF2 and running around shooting at everything that moves. If you're really that much better than the rest of the team then you should probably find a different server with better players, not call out everyone who isn't at your level. I doubt anyone goes into a game planning to play their worst, some of us just don't really have a 'best' yet.

I smell a superiority complex... Keep berating your teammates. I'm sure it's making a difference.

So, you set yourself up in the "Recreation" zone, then get pissed off that people are playing the game recreationally?

You're doing it wrong, buddy.

I don't know if this is so much a problem on other systems, but on XBOX LIVE there is definitely a problem with the systems ability to match players of comparable skill/competitiveness. I think that should move away from the somewhat standard system they have where the system finds you a match, and allow you to actively host/find your own matches, and allow the host to control the game and keep it as competitive as they would like. There aren't any/enough dedicated servers, and they make us host it anyways, so why not?

I suppose the reason they go with is to lend credibility to their tracked statistics, but that doesn't seem as important to me as keeping the experience fun for everyone.

Nothing worse then a douche on the other end of mic complaining about the quality of play.

If you want to play competitively and squash n00bs, stick with your "clan" of like-minded douches and leave the rest of us just to have fun.

I agree with Tha Meat. You have to set a positive example. Playing with your buds is best, but when you can't, you get a hell of a lot more with Sugar than with Vinnegar.

I've found that most of the guys who bitch about their team are the guys playing slayer when the game is capture the flag. Get involved with your team, if they'll have that. Sometimes they don't. You just look for a better game afterward.

Haha, seriously. All the people getting butt hurt by this post probably need to take some time to relax and play a game.
