About Me
First game I ever played was Legend of Zelda and I fell in love with video games then!

Game systems I own and the order in which I got them.

NES - In a box
Genesis - Missing actually
PS1 - In a box
Dreamcast - In a box
PS2 - In my son's room
Atari 2600 - In a box somewhere, very sad
(Xbox - had it, left it to someone else, bad idea)
Game Cube - Also in my son's room
Xbox 360 - In livingroom
Wii - In computer room
PS3 - In livingroom

I'd love to have a room where I could hook all of these up, but at the moment not a possibility.

My son has his own DS and PSP.

Check out one of the funniest cult indie films you'll ever see Gamers the movie!

I've been a gamer ever since I played Legend of Zelda, I think I was about 6 or 7 years old,
at my friends house. I'm not sure I even had to ask for it for Christmas that year, since I had
been spending so much time over at the friends house playing.

Skipping those glorious years with the NES up to the PS2/Xbox. (Yes I updated my systems
between never stopping playing.) But it was around that time that my son was of the age
that he noticed what I was doing and the game I was playing. Now my son was born when
I was just 18 years old, yes I was way to young to be having a child, but he is the best thing
that has happened to me.

Just like most kids, he wants to be just like me and do all of the things I do. I'm all for him
playing video games, and I pay very close attention to the games he plays. I tried hooking up
the old NES for him so he could play all he wanted and I wouldn't have to worry about the
content of the game. I love it when a game comes out that I can play with him and we both
enjoy it together, like the LEGO games or Viva Pinata.

One gripe I have is his mom and the kid's parents that live on their street. Either they know
nothing about video games, or they just don't pay attention to the media their children are
seeing/playing/hearing. He told me once about going to a birthday party for one of his friends,
the kid being a year younger than my son, and the kid getting Halo 3 as a gift. Of course the
kid tears downstairs to his system and starts playing, while the parents sit upstairs and know
nothing about what is going on downstairs. Needless to say, his mom now calls me if she
has a question about anything video game related, and my son knows to ask about a game
before he plays it.

The other gripe is that I no longer have the time to play the games that I want. I'm still playing
Mass Effect for the first time through! I've gotten backed up on my games to play! Lost
Odyssey, GTA4, Too Human (played a bit of the first level,) Penny Arcade: On the rain slick
precipice of darkness episode 1(played a bit on this as well,) and added today Fable II. I still
need to pick up LEGO Batman for the both of us, and Force Unleashed for myself. And with
Fallout 3, GoW 2 coming out soon there looks like no way I'll ever be caught up. Those are just
the games I'm behind/will be behind on 360, Odin Sphere for PS2 and Twilight Princess on Wii.
There just aren't enough hours in the day!!!

What Alex said...

Also, welcome fellow gaming dad.

It was a good read! I am glad to see someone who had kids young is taking better care of their children's upbringing than some more "experienced" parents.

Welcome to Dtoid (if you are new!),

You can always rely on the NES to keep things clean, but that kid will start to realise his graphics aren't quite.... well.... up to scratch.

Good luck with it all!

I tried to do real hardcore gaming but the next generation, who is currently 16 years old, tends to smite me at any game we tackle.

I do not appreciate it and neither will you!
