Pay to Play... it can't remember a bigger insult. First thing that comes to mind when I thnk of biggest Nintendo let down WAS the Gamecube. But not anymore... Pay to Play: THE REASON why the Gamecube was the letdown. Let me break it down.
It was around E3 2003... Mario Kart Double Dash for the Gamecube was shown and the big question on everyone's mind was, "Is it going to be online?" That is when Miyamoto proudly said, "Nope, but here's a LAN option that benifits the people that have two TV, two Gamecubes, two Gamecube LAN adaptors, one LAN cable more than four controllers, and more than four gamer friends (something you can't even buy and are very hard to randomly find without proper fucking online... not mention that if you have Two Gamecubes to begin with you probably don't have many friends anyway)."
So WHY Miyamoto, WHY Iwata, WHY Nintendo!? The answer was rough but it made sense: They were not going to provide online to there games unless it was profitable, easy and free for the consumer. That's Nintendo; caring, putting the game first and original... the one I know, the one I respected. Like this... I was able to justify why the Gamecube failed so hard once they met all said online goals with "Nintendo Wi-Fi connection (even though the name 'Nintendo Net' would have worked way better)" with the release of Mario Kart DS on the DS. Perhaps one of the most simplist straight foward system EVER in an online feature (fucking friendcodes)... but at least the price was right and we could understand why.
I believe now is where you can see my fustrastion. Basically, WHAT THE FUCK IS 'THIS' AFTER SO LONG!? Nintendo could have done this on the Gamecube! They could have saved the fucker! And saved Nintendo fans the hell years in 05/06. So why would we do this? “collecting fees for some services [that] will allow us to adapt flexibly." -Aoyama... Fuck, you mean like X-Box Live or something?!
Philosophy from Nintendo to Nintendo fans is everything, it what keeps us/me with them. So here's hoping I'm wrong about this in someway and they WON'T change the free basic online system. Otherwise this move contradicts a chain of events that became what is today.
Gamecube=No Online=DownFall=Rebelion=Revolution=Wii
Yes..Ive heard this news on The Wiire already and all i had in my mind is "you got to be shitting me" but then i realize that 2 blockbuster games are coming out soon, Smash And Mario Kart, so someone at Nintendo must of had the greed eye.
Second though IF they ever do plan to do this Pay to play service i better see fucking results or i'm gonna go to nintendo at trow a Wii-mote at their HQ window
I'm pretty sure that free online for Smash is confirmed already, don't know about Mario Kart though.
That said, if Nintendo wants to establish a pay to play system, they better improve their current online system quite a bit, nobody's gonna pay money for friends codes and no voice chat(probably the most basic online features at the moment), but who knows.
Nintendo has become a hugely arrogant company with the Wii doing so well, and a decent chunk of Nintendo fans are mindless idiots who will fork over the cash for this, I mean look at the Wii, amazing that a machine with maybe 3 titles that are worth buying has done so well.
So Pay to Play just become insanely lucrative for them, Nintendo's the only company that most people give a free pass to and praise them for the very same thing they complain about with other companies.
I can see it now "Pay to play bigger than XBL".
the sad truth is they want money to cover up for the great Fuck up known as the Gheycube
what i'm pretty pissed off about is Nintendo even thinking about this move.
now kids will have to ask mommy and daddy for money to just play a simple game online. Ghey? yes it is.
this is probably the most unfamiliy oriented move nintendo has taken since the beginning drought of Wiis.
This is bs.
actually they make a note to say it's pay and play.
they don't want to use the word TO
because... you know that makes it better! :/ laym
I'm basically okay with it as long as they make it more hardcore oriented, for additional features AKA downloadable content, voice chat and/or MMORPGS. But if there's a fee for the basic online play... then Wii have a problem.
