CONFIRMED: Heavy Rain is the new Dragon's Lair
charlieduke | 11:38 AM on 08.20.2008 27 comments

Gamersyde has the new Heavy Rain trailer:
http://www.gamersyde.com/news_6991_en.html

After viewing it and getting over the amazing animation/graphics engine... I can't help but notice one major game play flaw: Q.T.E. aka Dragon's Lair for the new generation.

I really hope there is more to this game then just pushing buttons at the appropriate time. If not, I don't care how fancy your animation/graphics are, I'm not sold!

I so want to love this game, please let there be game play!!!!

Miss the miss' long hair. Suppose it makes it way less of a hassle on animations.

Quantic Dream's games focus more on Dialog and plot choices. I think most if not all of the action in Indigo Prophecy was done in QTE. This isn't too bad an idea since the fighting and shooting sections on their first game, Omikron, were absolutely terrible.

Resident Evil 6?

I guess if it is done in a non-annoying manor, it would be ok. I have not played Indigo Prophecy, but are you able to actually explore the world around you prior to the QTE portions? If it isn't just a long string of press the button now segments, I may actually give it a chance.

I'm looking forward to it. As long as they keep their focus on amazing plots. To me, its like new age adventure games really.

OOO. That looks gooo oood!

@CharlieDuke

Yes, you can explose all on your own but things like fights and chases were handled by QTE. It's basicly an adventure game with Dragon Lair-esqe sequences.

explose = explore... or explode I forget.

damn you beat me to it.

Anyways, this could be either really good or be cliched like a bunch of other QTE games. I'm hoping good because the QTE look to be even more cinematic and frantic than other games.

but quite honestly, I feel like it could wear thin after a while.

rental.

i like QuanticDream. They made an abomination called Omikron: Nomad Soul which holds a dear and an irrational place in my heart. If only that game did one thing good and not a billion different ones really bad. A fighting game engine, really? What were they thinking?

Anyways, I still have to pick up Indigo Prophecy, that one looks rather good.

Good luck with Heavy Rain.

@SHIPERO:

Explode... always preferred...

I hope they release a demo, or maybe I will purchase Indigo Prophecy off Live Marketplace and see if that is tolerable.

Thanks for the info.

Just spare me the necrophiliac sex scenes and the batshit plot twists this time.

Has anyone collected the cool points for not liking Heavy Rain yet? Do I get any for thinking it looks "okay"?

Seriously though, you kids need to try some old-school adventure games.
charlieduke's Destructoid Blog
Bought Indigo Prophecy... so far, I like it. Heavy rain looks like it may be faster pace, hopefully.
