So today, an import copy of Catherine arrived in the mail. It was so lovely I had to share....and as a surprise bonus it came with goodies even though I was only expecting a game (should of known right? it's atlus after all).
Here are some post cards that came with it:
the bottom right image is the ps3 cover (the version I got) as well. Middle bottom one is the xbox360 cover. I almost ordered both versions to get both covers originally....glad I didn't.
Forgot to take a picture of the actual game box....but that's easy enough to find...here's the inside of the box:
Here's the back of the post cards:
And it came with this little case that has a music cd and a little booklet:
Very nice... though I think they send the wrong message about the game with the art work. Instead of seeming like a mature game about a relationship, it kinda gives off a "cheesy-porn" vibe. :(
Elsa makes a great point, the game looks sleazy as hell and that, I think, is a HUGE reason why everyone wants it, especially on gaming forums. The potential chance to see some skin is warranting to some people, the price of admission. If this game was the puzzle game it was with blocks on the front cover, no one would blink at it.
Who the hell plays tetris for 5+ hours because you can safely say that tetris, based on sheer sales, is the better puzzle game and you can buy it for $10! Oh but there is no "story" or "bewbs" to go along with mah puzzling.
I've alreday ready that so many people posting that the game gets boring and is repetitive and they just like the "story".
@dexter
I actually understand about half of the voice acting.
I can't read japanese though, so I'm still really lost, but I'm almost done with the first playthrough too.
@elsa
I actually have alot of thoughts about that and different things. This game actaully has really changed my opinion of "sex in games." There's something about it that just feels right, not at all contrived like mass effect or dragon age. Like it's there cause its ment to be there, not for the sake of being there.
I think I'll post a write up when I'm done with my first play througg.
assuming I finish that is.....the last set of stages are fucking hard. like...really really hard. and I'm playing on easy. they weren't kidding when they said this game was difficult...I barely scraped by stages 2-6...
Nice! I hope to read your impressions when you finish the game.
@mix
The gameplay probably is mediocre, but I don't see how people getting/enjoying the game because of the story is a problem. Did you ever play Hotel Dusk? People like it because of the narrative/story, not because of the simple puzzles. Personally, that's (narrative/story) what really grabs my attention about this game. It's true that they're marketing it like it's a porn game, but what I really want to see is a interesting take on relationships and sex.
Sorry, I've never played Hotel Dusk but I have checked it out as I enjoy puzzles (like professor Layton) though now that you said simple, I would have to look into it more before I bought it, lol.
I guess I am at the different end of the spectrum as I would rather have deep, amazing gameplay experience over a story any day of the week. GTA style, Racing and FPS games usually have very little story or atmosphere to them but I am always sold on solid gameplay rather than the story.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Saw you playing this on PSN.
Makes me want to Import this. But i'ld never unseal it.
:/
Thanks for the Pictures though!
I love you Atlus.
