Yea I just signed up for the contest so HA! :P

Anyway that aside, I thought I would just add a bit about me and try to make peace on this site.
Only problem is that I'm a nerd and there is nothing really cool about me.
I'm a game programming, been programming since I was 5, and other then that I'm a student at DigiPen and like Yogurt.
So I might stick around a while and see what this place is about. Hope not everyone here is a jerk :D

^^ Now bring on the hate!!!!

There are two memories that really stand out for me in this game. The first being when I mapped floor 27, a 31x21 area with powerful monsters and invisible pits that drop you to a poisoned filled room below. I did it without cheating and then shortly after finishing; I broke down into tears. The level designer really is an evil person for doing that.

But that aside, the memory that will forever live with me was right at the very start. This a common memory that I think all of the people who played the game share and yet have their own twist on it. It is a tale filled with the fun and joy of getting a new game, making a party, going on an adventure and then having someone take a giant hammer and shatter that happiness into a million pieces. My own version of the tale goes like this:

"The Labyrinth swallowed all...

Innocents were stranded;
sinners drowned in the depths;
the damned vanished there.

The great power was lost to
Man, and Mother Earth turned
her back to the new world.

Only the cursed king on
his throne in the abyss
remembers the golden age."

In a vast and fertile land lies a small town known as Etria, a peaceful
village that became famous for a startling discovery. A crack in the vast
forest opened at Etria's edge, leading downward like a gaping maw. It all
began there...

Those who hear rumors of the labyrinth of Etria, whether young or old,
begin to harbor dreams of exploring it.

Riches... fame... prestige...all that and one more thing does the labyrinth
promise: the true spirit of adventure, on the perilous edge of death.

Today, like any other day in the new Etria, a youth walks through the town
gates..."

A new guild was formed to test the dungeon and plunder it from all its riches. That was my guild called "Red Leaf". The party was made up of a Protector and Landsknecht in the front followed by a Medic, an Alchemist and a Survivalist in the back. We had just gotten the very first mission from Radha Hall. It was the Adventurer's initiation and the task set before us was to map the first floor of the great labyrinth of Etria. The title of the first floor "The first hope-filled step" was where all my adventures started. After receiving orders from a soldier to map a little section of the first floor we started to wandered around every corner, down every path mapping every little bit by hand. After getting into a few fights we gained some levels then returned to town to rest up and get some better equipment only to return to the labyrinth. I was enjoyed every minute of exploration and could not wait to see what was around each bend until I found a path along the bottom edge of the map. There was nothing special about it this long path as it wrapped around below the stairs at the start of the floor and then dead-ends at a little room. Never has there been a more fitting use for dead-end then that room at location D1. Entering the room is the most painful memory I have but I sill remember it clear as day:

"As you walk, you reach a
clearing filled with
blooming flowers.

The nameless flowers sway in
the wind, and you catch the
scent of their fragrance...

You contemplate whether to
rest and enjoy their sweet
smell, or leave immediately"

A peaceful meadow of flowers, what could be more relaxing.

"Rest amongst the flowers?"

Of course!

"You decide to relax in the
fragrant clearing.

However, you aren't the only
creature in the forest lured
by the sweet floral scent.

Before you can react, a pact
of woodflies swarm around
you."

What!? I have been tricked into a trap!
But woodflies are nothing and shall fall before the might of my party.

"Woodflies...? Nay, these
are the extremely Poisonous
breed known as Venomflies!"

Venomflies!? Oh no this sounds like it is going to be tough...

"Knowing that escape is futile,
you brandish your weapons and
prepare for battle!"

.....

I watched in horror as my party was sprayed with poison and slowly started to die. The medic was casting spells trying to desperately heal the party but to no avail. Everyone attacked using all the magic and might we could muster but in the end the battle was hopeless. The party was laid to waste among the blooming flowers.

From that point on every time I saw a opening in the trees or something shiny on the ground I marked the spot and fled. Only returning to check out what it was after saving, healing my party and stocking up on enough items to survive a nuclear holocaust.

Thank you for reading, thank you Atlus for giving us a great game and I thank whoever put that event in the game, it was the most awesome moment in a video game I have seen in a very long time.
