So, here's the deal: I found a post on the skate.ea.com forums about a glitch that helps you beat "Can You Spell GIRL?" which is a real pain in the ass. So, to help things along, I made a video to help. I also gave props to the guy who discovered the glitch.
So, I posted the video on GameFaqs to spread the word. The hits started pouring in on my video. Well, it turns out that this 15 year old kid (who loves G-Unit and 50 Cent, btw) made a video showing the same thing and posted it to YouTube a day before me. He saw my video and posted comment on it, something to the effect of "Hey fucking dipshit, this is MY GLITCH, I found it and made the video first".
Hhmm... did he say it was HIS glitch? Yes indeed! But wait, what's this? On the Skate forums, he posted that he made a video of the guy's glitch. He even claimed to give the guy props! Of course, he didn't do that.
Well, the hits continued to roll in on my video. In fact, I'm way past his in terms of views and comments and such. My video even made it to the #26 Top Viewed Game video of the day. It got posted on Xbox360Achievements and a bunch of other forums.
So, this kid decided to follow those links and post his video, the whole time claiming that he found the glitch. There were even a few other videos made showing off the glitch that he went to claiming he discovered it. So, I did what any other unemployed 30 year old with too much free time and a hatred for people who take credit for the work of others would do. I called him out on every post that I found that he made claiming that the glitch was his.
Now other people are knockin him for laying claim to the other guy's find, and he's getting pissed at me.
This is so much fun for me. With not having a job, I haven't felt like I've had much of a purpose (outside of being a father to my two kids), so I at least have some sort of a mission now.
I'm not sure why anyone would want to pass off someone else's work as their own, but I've seen more than a few "Left 4 Bed" videos that I sure as hell didn't make :(
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
