Tonight’s film is Deep Rising. Have you ever seen it? Odds are that you haven't. If you have, then you get extra geek points in my book. (And yes, I was actually one of the few people who went to see this in theaters) If you have not, and you like movie with giant sea creatures, half-digested people, and Famke Janssen, I strongly suggest this movie to you.
It starts with an explanation about a certain part of the ocean where ships vanish and nobody knows why. Then you get some dramatic POV footage of something swimming. From there, we go to a small boat speeding through the ocean, loaded with a crew of three taking a group of shady characters to an unknown location. From here we jump to a cruise ship on it's maiden voyage, and it's filled with a bunch or rich people and Famke Janssen. From there we get a shot of the other boat, a man puking into a bucket, and the rest of the shady characters, including Midnite from Constantine and Sagat from Street Fighter.
Anyway, right before these guys reach the cruise ship (if you didn't see that coming, stop reading this blog right now and go get your GED), the ship's computer is disabled by an inside man. Then, all hell breaks loose and people start getting killed. In one of the best scenes in the movie, a woman gets pulled down a toilet.
In fact, almost everyone there dies aside from the few who are needed to move the plot along... I mean, the few who are lucky. Yeah. I won't go past that because I don't want to spoil too much for anyone who hasn't seen this movie (which will be most of you who read this).
This movie has gore-a-plenty, and the effects are very well done, so you don't have to worry about being left high and dry in that department.
As I stated before, if you like B-movies, make sure to check this one out! And don't worry, this may be a B-movie with an A-movie budget and effects, but it still knows that it is a B-movie at the core and it doesn't try to be anything beyond that.
This movie also makes great use of The Girl from Ipanema.
Coming soon:

Totally surprising for a B-movie.
