Dark Sector is a game made by a company called Digital Extremes. for those of you that don;t know, Digital Extremes worked with Epic Games on every Unreal game from the original Unreal right up to 2004. If there are parts of UT3 you don;t like, it may be because DE were not there to lend Epic a hand in making it. Instead, they took UE2 and made the Evolution Engine. An engine that, although maybe not as pretty as UE3, is certainly more stable that its half brother. Some people, do not like this game and I can undertand why. It is a strange mix of different games; a bit of the Gears cover system, a bit of Heavenly sword-esque aftertouching and a bit of awesome gunplay. Edge, a magazine I read for its brilliant reviews, mentions that even though it is a mix of different games, they are put together very well. They gave it a 7, a score I agree with very much. Even though I love this game and enjoy playing it, it does have its problems.
Better Cover system The cover system in Dark Sector is brilliant. It is very similar to but better than the Gears cover system in that I don't get stuck to walls I don't want to be stuck to. The problem is that sometimes I would like for it to auto-stick me to cover. When performing a SWAT turn it will most likely be because I want to swap to a nearby pillar or the other side of the door, not because I want to SWAT turn and then run off. Auto-sticking in that situation would be nice. Also, you sometimes seem to poke out from a corner when you really shouldn't and this can lead to me being destroyed by surrounding monsters.
Being able to blindfire the Glaive One thing that annoyed me very much was that I could not blindfire my Glaive and had to poke my head out every time I wanted to take somebody else's off. I can accept that it might make the game a bit easier but there can be limitations like no blindfiring power shot and no aftertouch on a blindfired Glaive throw. Or, you could make it so that when I blindfire, although I can aftertouch, it does not slow down as much or I do not have as much control over it.
Guns should be better For a lot of the game, I ended up using the Glaive because the guns were just not powerful enough to keep up with the Glaive upgrades. It wasn't until I got the Single Action Army with Enferon shells and upgraded firepower that my guns were almost as useful as the Glaive. All I wanted was an automatic fire weapon with decent accuracy and decent firepower. I ended up going through a section using nothing but that mostrosity above because it was the first decent gun I had that would destroy the enemy.
Hardcore bosses should not be so fucking hardcore I love that the bosses in the game are hard as hell. I love that each one has a specific way to defeat them. What I do not love is that, even on the normal difficulty, some of them kill me in one hit and the mothod of killing them is hard to figure out. Nemesis took me a while because, as well as him being a humungous arsehole, it took me a while to figure out just how to beat the git. All that needs to be done is make the bosses not kill me in one hit and I will be happy. Save the one hit killing for the Brutal difficulty. That would be much appreciated and, make brutal that little bit more brutal compared to normal.
Better story, give us some background Those are all gameplay issues that can be fixed. This last one is to do with the story. While the story is not too bad in that it drives the action along fine, there are some horrible holes in it. I picked up the comic that went with it so I had an idea of some of the backstory, but the game itself had almost nothing about the previous outbreak of the disease. The other things is that I want to know are what happened to Hayden. The game constantly hints to Hayden fucking something up and almost every main character has something to do with it, but we are never told what IT is. I want either a novel or a comic or even another game to explain what happened. In fact, another game where the focus is more on the guns would be awesome. Sure, the whole infection thing would be gone but I am sure something could be cooked up to replace it. Anyways, this is my thought on it. Sure, I love the game even with its faults but unfortunately, the faults do drop my enjoyment a little bit.

This is good, it makes my entry look like cold poo.
Shame it was banned in Australia, this game looked like some good old fashioned, over the top violence. Which we all know equals fun :)
I was thinking about getting this game, but I was told just to rent it. Might give it a look, cause you said it was better than GoW
