Ok, so I had this idea, I don't know if it was a good decision or a poor one. I bought a 360, thing is, it's broken (RROD).
(I knew that making my purchase) I paid close to $100 dollars for it including shipping. My plan is to try to fix it using the
x-clamp repair technique then possibly re-sell it. I haven't received the console in the mail yet, so I haven't seen whether or not there are burn marks etc. on the mobo.
I'm really hoping the person who had it before me didn't try this fix. If so, I hope he/she did it wrong (but not broken wrong). I have looked at a few different ways to perform this procedure.
Some procedures require drilling due to the metal panel, to which the mobo bolts, being warped. Some simply require adding washers and tightening the fasteners.
Another shitty thing I'm worried about is, if the disk drive gives read errors, or if it was improperly flashed leaving it bricked. (The longer I write this entry the more forehead slapping I'm doing due to the amount of things that could've been done before I get it.)
If anyone here has tried any of these repairs, I'd really like to know how it went for you. Also I'd like to know whether or not the x-clamp repair worked -after- doing the
towel trick multiple times. I've heard the towel trick can permanently damage some internal components.
I guess I'm really asking you guys to cross your fingers. I'd like to get a console that hasn't been royally raped and therefore left irreparable.
The Last one I fixed was in july, and it still works great.
And it's not the blanket method.
