Destructoid Art, and Other Assorted Stuffery (NVGR-ish)
boylie | 8:31 PM on 05.28.2008 12 comments

I was in the mood for modeling when I got home from work last night (a rarity, seeing as how I do 3D modeling all day at work). I found inspiration from Mr. Destructoid:

I wanna finish this, like put him in some kind of scene, but I need to think about where he's gonna be and what he's gonna be doing. Any suggestions?

Also, while I'm in a 'sharing my work' mood, I present the equally nerdy 3D Lego Snowspeeder:

Put Mr. Roboto in a scene like the original Super Smash Bros, with a child's hand or the Master Hand glove sort of pretending he's fighting someone.

Awesome models. Are you using SolidWorks?
boylie's Destructoid Blog
No I use 3dsMax and render with Final Render. I meant to ask in the post, but does everyone like the clear plastic part on top? The smoking robot that Mr. Destructoid is based off of has it, but the DToid robot doesn't.

And rest assured, whatever I do with him for the final shot, he'll be breaking something / someone / both simultaneously.

Great work! I say ditch the plastic part for the true Mr. Destructoid experience. He is his own robot, after all.

Awesome work!

I'd also say remove the plastic part but I'm not sure what to suggest for a scene. Sorry.

God I wish I could do this.

@Cheeburga

I actually taught a group of kids to use 3dsMax over a week's worth of summer school last year. Your reply gave me an idea... If I made a series in my blog to teach some 3D basics and some tutorials to follow along with (like the dtoid robot for instance), do you think there'd be alot of people on here that would be into it?

@ Everyone else

I'll lose the plastic bit and post again when I have the final shot finished

Im currently learning maya at uni but i'd definetly be interested in any tutorials on offer from someone in the industry.
Get on it :D

I would. I took animation in high school, like, 10 years ago. I'm sure stuff has changed a littttle bit. I'm in construction now, animation doesn't pay enough these days, so if I do animation, its all for fun. I like the Lego model, but the lighting needs some work.

That's pretty sick. I had a hard time with 3DS Max. It sucks, cause I don't have it anymore :|

 about me

http://boylie3d.blogspot.com/ - Mah Blog

Well...

I live in Toronto, and I work at a company called Ganz doing 3D modeling for them for a toy line / website they do called Webkinz. If anyone here on DToid has kids, there's a pretty good chance you've heard of them. They're kind of a big deal.

Anyways, obligatory "Top 10" style favourite games list follows:

10. Silent Hill 2
9. Psychonauts
8. Beyond Good and Evil
7. God of War
6. Shadow of the Colossus
5. Guitar Hero 2
4. Bioshock
3. The Orange Box *
2. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
1. Half-Life **

* Ya I know, it's not one game, but I'm willing to ignore this for the moment for the sake of the list, otherwise I'd have used up 3 slots on it.

** If it wasn't for the original Half-Life, I don't know that I'd be doing 3D work for a living right now. It's what really inspired me to get into games / 3D
