a ps3 late bloomer

It was on a whim a few months ago that I bought the Playstation 3, which was released in 2006. I'm definitely not the guy who preorders games, but more like this guy who gets his game for the fraction of the price at the cost of temporal compromise. (I must admit I had been influenced by my outdated computer, which limited me to wait for games like Simcity 4 while the cool kids were playing Call of Duty 4. And the amazing sales at Steam and had only stirred the bargain hunter self that only a fool would buy a game at list price.)

I had considered buying the PS3 before and ran this idea by my older brother, who lives an hour and a half from me. He is a practical, straight-forward guy and would respond with "why?" While the obvious reason was to play awesome games like the Split/Second and the Batman series, I felt thrown off by his response. Maybe it was the fear of having a buyer's remorse afterwards. I felt like I was talking to my dad and had to come up with some explanation rational enough to please Spock. So I put off the idea of buying the PS3.

(Ironically, he bought his PS3 when it first came out. His explanation was its ability to play games and play blu-ray. He mostly did the latter while his roommates did the former.)

And of course, there was "the waiting." The waiting for the price to come down especially with the arrival of the PS4 over the horizon.

Screw trying to earn my brother's approval and screw "the waiting."

So I went and got the Playstation 3.

It was the announcement of the white playstation 500 gig that got me determined to get one. I got up one morning last March and visited a local Target, Wal-Mart, and then Best Buy. All of them didn't carry the white one that I hoped for.

So I settled buying a PS3 bundle with 260 gig (comes with Uncharted 3 and one-month trial for PS Plus) for $269, plus tax. I know, the 500 gig for only $30 more sounded enticing. This was probably the one moment that I had to overrule my bargain hunter instincts. Sure, might be nice to have that extra real estate, but it's really meant for my video games and not to download all those movies and TV shows.

When I got home to setup, I was stoked. Got it hooked to the home wi-fi network and the wireless controller connected.

So I played Spec Ops, which was offered in the PS Plus store. Then demos for Scott Pilgrim and Vs. the World and Super Puzzle Fighter.

Finally, about time to catch up on some great PS3 games.
