I haven't watched the trailer yet -- I'm at work -- but I actually have high hopes and high expectations for the Where The Wild Things Are film. It's directed by Spike Jonze, so that's a major point of interest for me right there, and while the screenwriters are definitely making the story their own, I have faith that the movie will be every bit as charming as Sendak's seminal book. We'll see, though.
Don't blame this on us. You're the one who works in Hollywood.
Also, I hope they don't make a Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs movie.
Also, I hope they don't make a Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs movie.
But when the screenwriters [i]"make the story their own"/[i] they're essentially saying, "We don't care about the original story"...
The way I feel is, why not make a new story that will then be your very own? Unfortunately the real answer is that the book is now very well known and many people who grew up reading it are old enough to have children and take their kids to this film, its a marketing/advertising scheme more than anything. It's a shame that entertainment has come to this.

Fuck you Diverse. If they ever make a movie of that book, I'm personally going to hold you accountable and I am going to rape you while you sleep.
Anyone see Cheaper by the Dozen? The movie about the lovable Frank Baker the High School football coach with 12 kids trying to get on Oprah or whatever? (I didn't)
I read Cheaper by the Dozen. The book about Frank Gilbreth the turn-of-the-century efficiency expert who utilized his studies with a motion picture camera in unnecessary movements vs unavoidable delay in a wide range of areas. He and was able to apply his techniques to his large family including 12 kids.
Stupid Hollywood.

I'm actually surprised that I'm liking this. I like Spike Jonze, and the visuals look pretty good. The wild things aren't too "real".
And the book was only 10 sentences long, so to "make the story their own" doesn't take much.

I'm with Samit on this one. I think it definitely has potential. Even if it sucks, I'll most likely see just because I have a little girl at home that loves movies like these.
I don't see what problems people have with this. It looks pretty great. And it was maybe the first book I've ever read, so I love it.
@Dexter345: You're too late.
I adored the book as a child. I think it has potential and I'm sure it will be decent if anything. Honestly I look forward to it. I didn't see anything that made me "cringe" whatsoever.
Also, if you're going to judge a film by a trailer, you shouldn't even be watching them.

I remember reading the book as a kid, I remember the imagery more than the actual story, and from what I remember the "monsters" look dead on. I'm curious, and Mr. Jonze attached to the project gives me hope. I might have to look around and see if the book is hiding somewhere in my attic.
Wow, such hate from you. I disagree entirely, this project has enormous potential. Spike Jonze. C'mon.
I didn't say this movie would be crap, only that I'm disappointed that its YET another remake/adapted screenplay.
I have real high hopes for this. The Wild Things look amazing and I'm sure Spike Jonze can make a wonderful adaptation of the book. It's movies like Transformers 2, Wolverine, and G.I. Joe with directors that take iconic characters and make them unrecognizable to put they're own stamp on, what to us are timeless classics. Did you see the character models for Cobra Commander over at Topless Robot today? They took Jason X's mask, made it clear, and added tubes to the face and chest. It's fucking ridiculous.
Yeah, popular culture movies savagely raped and murdered our childhoods.
But remember friends, they are still OUR childhoods...

I disagree and have nothing against adapted screenplays/remakes done right (no country for old men / dark knight). This looks right.
However, the the talk of a neverending story remake pisses me the fuck off.
