My character depends on the level, though generally I will use either Renfield or Jimmy as I think they're the best characters to use for racking up points. Cinder is good if there are lots of bricks around too.

I don't like to brag, but I will... pretty much since launch I've moved around from 8th-20th on the overall peg party leaderboard. FEAR ME!
For the record, on most levels I use Warren. The people using Hu just don't know what they are doing, and I usually beat them anyway.
