Wii's collecting dust?
bl4km4th | 8:51 AM on 10.22.2007 13 comments

Is anyone else's wii collecting dust?

I read a Joystiq article recently that claimed that %67 of Wii owners haven't been using their console on a regular basis.

I confess that I'm guilty of this. As to why I can only speculate. I still play video games on a regular basis. I spend a great deal of time on the virtual console and playing gamecube games. However, as far as Wii games go I seldom play them when compared to everything else the Wii has to offer. Perhaps it's hard to break one's self from the traditional controls of typical consoles or maybe I'm just lazy.

My friend lent me his PS3 recently. In the course of 2 days we completed Heavenly Sword and while I am a proud Wii owner I'm no fanboy by any means. In my experience with the PS3 I've been left wide-eyed by the graphics and textures presented in the game cinematics. The Aftertouch controls alone provide hours of entertainment. Granted, the most fun of that is derived from how close you can get an arrow to your target's scrotum. I've found myself drawn to that more so than my Wii. Maybe I'm clinging to the familiarity of the controls?

Yeah, this has been reported before...

Front Page, October 16. The percentage Joystiq got was from IGN.

I know it's old news I just wanted to speculate as to why it's becoming a trend. During the initial launch the Wii was dubbed as a fad. Is this holding true or are people just waiting for some true flagship titles before they fireup their Wii again?

No, developers aren't utilizing the Wii correctly. Games are not all that good cause DEVELOPERS are putting out sucktacular stuff. So don't look to blame the Wii...blame EA, Ubisoft, Activision, etc.

Nintendo targeted the casual market. They're done playing Wii Sports, and there's no clear casual successor available now. Plus, casuals will probably only pay full retail for a game a few times a year.

I still play mine whenever I get the chance.

At the moment mine is sitting unused, but, so is everything else, since I've been caught up in Final Fantasy Tactics again.

This is beating a dead horse, but I'm surprised Nintendo is not doing more for the casual (read: baby boomer) market. If they added a multiplayer trivia or gameshow channel, older people would be all over that. They could use those channels to help market retail games like Big Brain Academy.

And why don't they have a Wii Sports 2?? Iwata insinuated that Nintendo won't do quick sequels (although three editions of Nintendogs and two of every Pokemon makes perfect sense...). Give the people what they want. If they made just the Wii Sports golf game into its own standalone, and put in 10 new courses and full club selection, people like my dad would buy a Wii just to play it.

I have been playing mine every once in a while, trying to finish Metroid 3 and Sin and Punishment

Well, I've been waiting to use my last Wii Points Card, and I think I may use it for Sin and Punishment. Dunno what else to use it on, as that leaves me with 800 points. Anybody got any good suggestions? As for using the Wii, practically never.

My dad's the same way. He's willing to buy the console just for the bowling on Wii sports.

No clue what the Wii points would be good for. I haven't seen anything intriguing besides Sin and Punishment. Then again I've been juggling titles to my SD card for about 2 months now so I download titles sparingly.

I've been thinkin' ( probably WiiShful Thinking )

With all the $ I've spent on the BS3 & Games...

Smash Bros. better be pretty damn good for me to ponder it, i guess that's the only game I'm drawn to for the Wii...

I think I'm just about the only person who still fires his Wii up at least 5 times a week, whether it be to play some VC games or some Wii games or just to check the damn news. There are quite a few good games for it if you don't mind looking, and there are still some good games to come.
