Railgun in RL? Respawn points in development?

So on Yahoo this morning I was greeted with an article that detailed the U.S. Navy's development of an electro magnetic cannon. Unlike the railgun present in Quake or any other fps this railgun is several meters in length and fires rounds the size of trash cans.

It makes me wonder what pieces of video game weaponry will be brought to life by modern science next. Shrink rays would be pretty sweet.

Anyways, YouTube clip of the test fire is below. Watch it and imagine taking one of those to the chest.

They have actually been available for a while now but the development I've been interested in is the larger ones they intend to fit to the main ships. They'll be able to dumb-fire a few miles!!
