About Me

Hello Destructoid. I play a decent amount of video games and spend just as much time (if not more) reading and writing about them. Why? Thats a good question. I'll have to get back to you on that one. In the meantime, i'd like to play some games and read and write about them.

I've been doing a small amount of blogging in the recent months and I recently decided that if i'm going to be doing that, I might as well do it here where someone might actually read it. Who am I kidding? Noone will actually read it.

I don't really enjoy writing, I do however get an amazing satisfaction from spell check. I'm old school. I remember the day I got my NES like it was yesterday, 1985. Well, actually I remember the year better than the day. Give me a break I was only 5. Do you remember when you were 5? Ok then.

Moving on. My next console was the Sega Genesis. Some of my best memories of that era revolve around the "beef" between the Genesis owners and the Super Nintedno owners. This wasn't some bullshit make believe beef like the "East Coast/ West Coast" beef was. This was real beef. You know, the type were "ya mom's ain't safe to walk the streets". I still have the "SEGA" tattoo across the belly to prove it.

Next was the Sega Saturn. (i did have the 32x and the Sega CD but those are hardly worth talking about as far as I'm concerned.) The Saturn was cool. I remember being rather impressed by the graphics and falling in love with Tomb Raider. Not because of the girl like some of you perverts but because it was just amazing. Somewhere around this time frame I was feeling a little bit of envy towards the Nintendo 64 guys. I don't know why I got off the Nintendo side of things, it wasn't intentional. I stepped into the Sega universe with nothing but the fondest memories of my Nintendo days. But alas, what can one do when receiving such things as gifts. Either way, I was quite happy with my Sega Saturn. That was until a new friend introduced me to his Playstation. (Although that might have sounded gay, by no means was it meant to.) He showed me how much better Tomb Raider looked, and how much better Tekken was compared to anything I had on the Saturn at the time.

This is where it all changed. I was sold. I needed a PlayStation. Even if it meant doing the unthinkable. Getting rid of the Sega Saturn.

And so it was done.

Moving into the the next generation, my recollections aren't quite as clear. I remember having a PS2 and I remember buying my Dreamcast. I don't know which came first but I know the guy who lived upstairs from me could burn those Dreamcast games onto cd's and they would play like a dream. I know he would give me 5 games for 5 dollars, and I know he seemed to have them all.

Could the PS2 do that? I suppose I could use Google and find an answer to that, but I'm trying to prove a point. What is the point? The point is SEGA KICKED ASS and they were steamrolled by SONY! That actually doesn't prove that point in any way, but you know what I mean.

Many years pass

Despite having my beloved Sega Dreamcast tucked away safely in a bed of pirated discs in my closet I purchased my 2nd PS2. This may have had something to do with the fact the DC had long been discontinued by this point.

Perhaps an XBOX would have been a good choice at this point? I was hardly aware of what was REALLY going on in the video game world by this time. I was on the outside looking in. Clueless. Much like I am today. The only difference is, I now have an XBOX 360.

It's definitely had a huge negative impact on my life. My wife moved out. My kids never answer the phone when I call and I cant seem to keep a job for more than a few weeks.

Just Kidding. I'm actually a pretty cool guy and I'm just working on finding the perfect balance of time between playing COD4 and bangin' super hot models.

Cerealy.

Whats your favorite achievement?

So last night after countless attempts I finally unlocked the "chain master" achievement in Poker Smash.

Its awarded for a 5x chain. Say what you will but that is no easy task. At least for me it wasnt. Im not too familiar with these types of games since I havent played anything like it since Tetris on my nintendo but this game is great.

Sure, someone on my friends list has an 84x chain, but he obviously cheated.

This particular achievement gave me a GREAT sense of satisfaction that I havent felt since my "Mile High Club" achievement in COD4. That was my favorite for a while and before that it was the "One Free Bullet" achievement from the Orange Box. Yes, I was so proud of that.

All achievements are good, some are GREAT. Whats your favorite?

Although I don't have the game or the Achievement...

"Easiest Achievement Ever" from The Simpsons Game.

Doom - Beat the entire game on Ultra-Violence. It was challenging at times but it was always enjoyable. If you've never played Doom on Ultra-Violence, then you have never played Doom.

Tetris Evolution - Went Low - It's a lot harder than you think to perfectly clear the matrix :X

And yes, I have to agree the One Free Bullet in HL2 EP1. It's such an extremely creativity way to play through the game and you get a great sense of satisfaction when the achievement unlocks.

The Darkness - Romantic
You have to sit with Jenny on the sofa and stay with her after she falls asleep nixt to you.

The Darkness - Keeper of the Secret
Pretty funny what the guy on the phone has to tell you.

Guitar hero 2 - Long Road Ahead Award
When I first let a friend play gh and failed a song on easy after 10 seconds I was like duh and when the achievement poped up I laughed out loud.

Portal - Partygoer
My total favourite part of Portal was when the computer voice (sorry forgot its name) was all like "hahaha that was fun pretending we were trying to kill you" after you escaped your near death in the flames

Just read about that One Free Bullet achievement, sounds like a great one, I haven't got many games since I got my 360 last week but I like the one in Assassin's Creed that requires you to throw 20 harassers, it's funny how they reqard you for being a woman beater.

Also
Bio Shock - Defeated Andrew Ryan
Because it will always remind me of how terrifying it was not having controll over your body and having to watch how you kill Andrew when you really didnt want to.

@ Dvd design.

I got that one! I think it was for pressing start at the start screen. haha.

@ Notdryad

I knew when i started HL 2 ep 1 there was no chance I was going to play through any other way. They throw you off a little with the lock at the beginning of the game though. I said there contemplating if I wanted to use that bullet for a good while. Before then I had dreams of firing off that shot in the air before crossing the finish line.

@ Fana7ic

I know I got the romantic one, that was a pleasant surprise. Im not to sure about the keeper of the secret, I need to check if I got that one. That game was pretty cool though. I know there were a few I missed, I like the one you get for sucking up 5 or 6 enemies at once in the black hole, I was pretty stoked about that one.

thats another great one! I tried that, I could have swore I made it all the way through with only using the grav gun but I didnt get the achievement. I must have messed something up along the way. That is def not an easy achievement. One of these days im gonna have to go back and try for that one again.

my favorite is "Did I break your concentration?" from Lego Star Wars CS.

Actually, most of the "kill x with x" in Lego Star Wars are pretty awesome.

Haha yeah the "get through ravenholm with only the gravity gun" was also cool. When I came to the mines after the graveyard, I forgot about it and shot the headcrabs below. After a while I thought "wait.... wasn´t there something I had forgotten?... aww fuck"
So I loaded my last save, which was on the roof where you have to wait for the lift (which was totally hilarious btw, running in circles and the zombies would just follow you), and went through the last part again.

Yeah, I couldn't think of one but I'm going to have to go with gravity gun on ravenholm. The level was much scarier with only the grav gun. Was happy to be done with it.

'I adore my 64' from Space Giraffe was another good one. Took me at least 15 tries.

I guess there are a few good ones I can go back and get from the orange box. Ive yet to see anyone with 1000/1000 in TOB.

that reminds me of another one of my favorite achievements.

"Vanilla Crazy Cake" (i think thats what its called)

for beating all the advanced maps in PORTAL!schweeeeet!

I like the one on Big Bumpin' where you just sit still on a hockey bumper car game. You can still screw it up if your opponent scores on himself, which is usually what happens...

I would never get the chainmaster achievement, I suck at puzzle games.

My favorite achievement was "Zombie Genocide" in dead rising, you get it after killing 53,594 zombies.
