Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball...or the Kinect

While I know that everyone is anxiously sitting by their door waiting for Microsoft to ship out their new Xbox 360 slim bundled with the Kinect for all of the red ringed systems we've owned...anyone?...anyone? How about this guy who has been waiting for his 360 since 2006?

Well, while we are all waiting, I thought I'd take a moment to investigate how my living room would need to be set up to house the upcoming motion-sensing-monolith. This recent Major Nelson minute puts together a preparedness-list of what users should be considering for optimal Kinect-ocity.

[embed]185479:33756[/embed]

This is a list reads like the warnings on Happy Fun Ball. Thank goodness we have a month to sell the coffee table on Craigslist, rearrange my furniture, even out the light in the room, sound proof my 360 and cut the vocal chords of all my roommates.   read

This week, the gang laments over the long wait for the games they played at E3 to arrive in our homes.

To ease the pain Neal picks up a new iPhone and starts to reintroduce himself to games that wouldn’t run on his second generation 3G

Jeff has internet connection problems out the wazoo and Andy tries to break the impossible score on Pac-Man CE.

Dave is still looking for a buyer of his 50 page E3 dissertation and talks about how the Crackdown 2 demo should come with a biohazard warning.

Lastly, Anthony goes off on Square’s lineup and what import games would be a no brainer for the US market.

Let us know what you think!

++Good Games is back in action, baby!

http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/good-games-podcast/id376548440

++Good Games' resident Dave Hulegaard and Jeff Steere are live at E3 (or whatever is left of it) talking it up with the likes of Cliff B. and Gabe Newell. The rest of the crew is safe at home avoiding the flailing arms from the Kinect presentation and talking with Mr. Larry Plotnick from Play N Trade.

Play N Trade stores (for those who may not know) are the only franchise videogame store opportunity here in the US and are looking to take over the void left in the wake of the recent Game Crazy store closures.

Click the link above to listen to the interview with Larry as he talks candidly about the PnT franchise, the E3 show and the games he's looking forward to this holiday season. Then, stick around to hear Anthony, Andy and Neal talk about how the show completely punched our expectations square in the junk.

Good times

I want to meet, nay, NEED to meet with Jim Sterling

Jim Sterling is a genius.

Maybe he's not a genius in the 'Stephen Hawking' sense, nor would I even say he's got the 'Bill Gates' type-o-smarts. No, Jim Sterling is a genius in the same way that Leslie Lemke is. Jim's genius, like Leslie before him, is about taking the tools and faculties he has at his disposal and using them to create unbelievable works of brilliance.

For those who may not have been around in the 80's when "That's Incredible" was on the air, Leslie Lemke was one of the go-to feel-good stories they would have to make you feel terrible about not being as talented as a person born with cerebral palsy, brain damage and later had both eyes removed by doctors. Leslie had all possible cards dealt against him and yet his savant-skill-set helped him learn and play Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto no. 1 by the time he was sixteen.

Jim is that kind of genius.

Whether he is writing about the pre-emptive shittiness of Sonic the Hedgehog 4, how the $20 Deadly Premonition bests Sony's Heavy Rain, Jim seems to hit satire-spike directly on it's head with 20T sledgehammer. The same could be said of his modern-day-Machiavelli conversation during the Destructoid podcasts. Hearing him cut into a Samit-fueled-rant or Brad-bashing session during those podcasts could make me laugh through even the most awful of news. "What's that you say? My mom has cancer? Well, I could give a shit because Jim is talking about his experience waiting in line for Modern Warfare 2 and I can't stop fucking laughing."

I've wavered between videogame web blogs for the better part of a decade. Most recently oscillating between sites like Kotaku, N4G, Joystiq and the like. Jim Sterling's articles and opinion are what has stolen nearly 100% of my attention towards Destructoid. As long as he continues to write troll-baiting articles and willfully berating his coworkers (co-writers) during the podcast I'll be sitting in the classroom like the lovelorn girl in the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Keep kicking ass, J-Money McSterling.   read

Nintendo points finger at Rockstar for not knowing how to market games...

*cough*

Yes, that's right. In a recent interview, Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo's EVP of Marketing calls out Rockstar themselves for the sales numbers on the DS version of GTA: Chinatown Wars. While expressing discontent over a title's lackluster sales isn't news, it was what she follows up with that is simply astounding.

http://www.mtv.com/videos/news/463702/grand-theft-auto-chinatown-wars-needed-more-marketing-support.jhtml

In the video, Cammie declined to comment on the marketing that was done, but then unequivocally states that Rockstar needs to, essentially, 'learn how to market games better.' She goes on to say that the "old dynamic of 'throw it on television for a few weeks and then move on and forget it' just doesn't work." Even though she declined to comment these quotes deliver the message, "hey, this isn't us...this is entirely someone else's problem."

Seriously...The makers of GTA need to understand how to market games...

*cough (again)*

So, if you've been reading my blog here on Destructoid, we are now into week three of Nintendo's slow and steady executive level freakout. If you don't wear glasses, find some other protective gear because the finger pointing is happening at such a fevered pitch that someone might lose an eye.   read
