Alright! This seems like something I will enjoy. I wish I had more requests, but DKC2 is the only game I could think of. Maybe Mega Man, but the NES beeps and blips might be too simplistic for your in-depth analysis.
You said Super Mario World didn't do that great in advancing SNES sound, so I'd like to hear your reasoning behind that too

Mega Man's blips and beeps are AMAZING! Mega Man 2 ranks as one of the best soundtracks ever. Simply created doesn't necessarily mean simple to dive into. :)
Sure, I'll gladly tackle Mario World! Consider it done. (To be honest, I'll probably do that one first since I'll need some time to become more familiar with DKC2.)

LOL at the above two comments :D
There are way too many amazing soundtracks that I could suggest... Chrono Trigger, EarthBound, Cave Story, VVVVVV, Super Metroid, Final Fantasy IV and VII... I'll keep my list short. Definitely do Mega Man 2! My favorite NES soundtrack :)

Hahaha. Corduroy Turtle hit the nail on the head! I've composed myself and can now properly reply:
AWESOME!
AWESOME!
@AlphanDeus:
That's DEFINITELY on my radar. In fact, I have a Famicom specifically for CV3. There's also the wild audio differences between the Japanese CV2 and American CV2 (Japanese was on the disk system with less memory so the music is awful; the US version's is vastly superior).
CV4 is assuredly on the to-do list. You know what might work well? A compare/contrast article detailing Vampire Killer from CV1, then CV3 to CV4, Dracula X. Wheels, they are a-spinnin'.
