Dear Destructoid community-
I am:
A long time reader.
An infrequent commenter.
And a first time blogger.
I write this, as many of us, have first gotten our hands on MW2. I've played the single player campaign a bit, as well as multiplayer.
Let me preface by saying I am a long time gamer. I've been in love since my older brother's rich friend would bring over all his 20+ Nintendo games for me to play, while said brother and dude would go and smoke cigarettes and listen to Metallica in a local barn. Later, I would use my allowance to spend on game rentals at the local "VIDEO STORE" (they had Laser Discs), and contribute to my adolescent obesity while eating Doritos, drinking Mountain Dew ('natch), and playing Zero Tolerance for the Genesis.
I kill the hookers in GTA. I commit as many head shots as possible, in any shape or form, spraying the brain matter of my opponents. I found such profound satisfaction as someone else would commit a Fatality in Mortal Kombat (because I can't do button sequences to save my life).
But.
I played the airport stage (No Russians or whatever) in MW2....and I couldn't stomach it. I skipped it. Even AFTER they were all like "YER GONNA BE OFFENDED." And I'm all like "No way dude, I'm hardcore, I drink whiskey straight and go to metal shows." 20 seconds in....couldn't do it.
Soooooo...if you are still reading (unlikely)...were there anyone else who couldn't stomach it? Or anyone who went through with it? Enjoying it? Dreading it? I'm no gaming prude. I love my intimate release with violence in games as much as the next guy...I couldn't help but be unsettled.
Again, I just want to hear opinions and thoughts. This isn't a "AHM RYGHT N UR WRONG" thing. I know Infinity Ward/Activision in a statement said it was to emphasize the evil of the main villain...but...I dunno. Tell me why I'm being a "wuss" about this. TALK TO ME D'TOID'R'Z

P.S.
Colette is my queen.
Jim is my king.
And Chad is my Jester.
GOD FORBID YOU WRITE ABOUT SOMETHING INTERESTING OR IN A WAY THAT WE HAVEN'T SEEN BEFORE
GOD FORBID
Krow: Thou incensed?
GOD FORBID TOGAIL
GOD FORBID
I think Krow's suffering a bit of bitterness from the fact he's trying to write something interesting and personal in his Majora's Mask article and other people are piling their Modern Warfare blogs on top of it. Can't say I'm happy that my attempts to promote my tournament are being flooded either, but it can't really be helped.
DEER KROW
I WUNT 2 BE UR FRIEND. WILL U BE MI FREN.
I AM SO DUM ADN DUNT UNDER STEND INTERNET. PLEZE HALP ME TRY
I'm just tired of reading about Modern Warfare 2, Wry. I've seen dozens of these sort of blogs over the past week.
I'll come back here after I get the game. Sometime in the next couple days
I can't stop laughing, Krow.
I feel you though. So much slathering of MW content. I can't care about that game anymore at this point. or anyless.
OOOONNNNE DAY - THE UNDERTAKE WILL RIIIIISE! AND THROUGH THOSE ASHES - YOU - YOKOZUNA - WILLL PERRIIISHHH!!!!
::Paul Bearer gets beat up and rolled around::
SO, LEFT 4 DEAD 2, GUYS.
I'm also kinda tired already about these blogs but that doesn't mean I won't answer your question. It's not your fault everybody writes about it, and it's not your fault I'm tired of it.
My take on this level is that it did absolutely nothing to me. Not in favor of the game nor against it. In the end it's still a video game no matter how many people you shoot in the face. It's a personal thing probably. Some people can't stand something, others think it's nothing.
I played through the Airport scene and I agree, it was harder than I thought it would be. I may have been a little more ready because I knew what it was going it, I had already heard stories about it. I thought it was an interesting way to show the evil of terrorism in a video game. Most violence in games is something that doesn't affect most of us because we know we are playing a game and therefor we don't take it seriously, but this scene did make me reflect on things a lot more than I thought it would.
