Apple Donates 100 grand to fight against “Proposition 8” (NVGR)
awkwardmongoose | 9:37 PM on 10.24.2008 10 comments

Apple announced today via short message on their site, that they will be publically opposing Proposition 8, and donating 100k to the “No on 8” campaign. If you don’t know what Proposition 8 is, it’s a bill seeking a change in California’s allowance of same-sex marriage. A "no" vote on the measure means marriages between same-sex couples would still be permitted in California.

“Apple is publicly opposing Proposition 8 and making a donation of $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign. Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person’s fundamental rights — including the right to marry — should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8.”

I know this is potentially flamebait, but I’m just happy to see Apple reaching for a cause, no matter how politically motivated it probably is. I think everyone should have equal rights, and I’m sorry this really doesn’t have much to do with gaming.

Marriage is Religious or a Ceremony of such. I don't understand why the Government decided to intervene. Seems Government and Religion are going Hand to Hand with each other nowadays even though it's in the US Constitution for them not to do so.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;"

I think this is great. If would be a sad situation if prop 8 passes, other states could follow being boosted by the California decision.

I don't understand whats with all the hate on gay people and marriage ;p wots it matter if they marry o_0 Don't see any harm... and they'll be happy and theyre'll be no more complaining about it. Seems like a win win to let gay couples get married if they want :o

From my understand, it's more or less a religious thing. Most people that are apposed to it say that marriage is a holy union between man and woman, and man and woman only.

If Prop 8 passes, I will have yet another of hundreds of reasons to pick from when asked why I hate your country.

The fact that these propositions exist proves the ridiculous nature of American politics.
