"Do you feel you it's justified?"
That is the question my friend asked me today when we were having our usual 360 vs. PS3 debate. So let me give any of my zero readers a little backstory on me, my friend, and ongoing battle of wits. Last generation we both owned all three consoles. I kept my cube around because I love Melee. My Xbox was the home of many nights of Halo 2 with friends, KOTOR, Fable, and Ninja Gaiden. Yes, I had more Xbox games than that, but you get the picture. The point I'm trying to make is I was a hardcore PS2 gamer. Pretty much anything that wasn't Xbox or Cube exclusive was bought on PS2. My friend was pretty much the same way except we have different tastes in games plus he really likes PC.
So flash through last generation and we find ourselves trying to decide between the Wii, 360, and PS3 for our first "next gen" console purchase. I was drawn to the Wii at first, but after the 360 came out and I got some playtime with it at GameStop I caved. Of course my friend was all sunshine and rainbows for it when we played it until the PS3 came out. But after he picked up his PS3 all of a sudden he became slightly hostile and extremely competitive about our machines. I remember vividly when I brought over my 360 and Bioshock because I wanted to play it on his HDTV. First he attacked the power brick, then the 360 noisyness, and then he said Bioshock was kinda disappointing. Granted he still asked for the controller when I died.
So flash forward to today when we go through our usual playing of a game leading to the battle. Tonight's catalyst was Devil May Cry 4, and boy was it a doozy. He just bought Devil May Cry 4 today and invited me over because I've been playing it on 360 for a couple days. He puts in the disc and starts up the game's installation. Now just for fun I told him he should go make a sandwich. That turned out to be a mistake...Of course he fires back with a whole spiel of well the load times are better and it's not really a big deal. How PS3 has Blu-ray and how that it won the format war. I try to explain that I wasn't trying to start anything and that I was just quoting a Capcom guy. Then he sets off on how my 360 has already red ringed and that he'd gladly take installs over red rings. Finally he drops the bomb, "Do you feel you it's justified?", talking about my 360 purchase of course.
Here's my reply: "Yeah, I think it's justified. I've had a blast playing my 360 ever since I bought it. Xbox Live kicks ass, XBLA games are pretty fun, and I've had the chance to play twice as many games as you. Yeah getting the red rings sucked, but my system came back in three weeks. Sure the hardware is faulty and that sucks, but I don't regret my purchase because the games are worth it. I don't really care whether or not PS3 is more high tech than 360. I don't really care that Blu-ray beat HD-DVD because that's not why I bought my 360. So yeah I think my purchase is justified thanks for asking."
So yeah I had a boring day and this was kinda like the climax. It's kinda weird being friends with a fanboy, but hey I grew up with the kid what can I do?
