If anyone has been looking for something different FPS wise then Mirror's Edge is probably going to be one that excites you. It seems the art of 'parkour' is not something just for Altier in Assassins Creed but also heading to this new genre of FPS Action.
This is defiantly a title I will keep my eyes on, along with Faith and a .45 and Velvet Assassin. I'm really excited about what the game has to offer. I really enjoyed free running in Assassins Creed and can't wait to do it in a funky FPS style. That trailer was completely in game footage, it smooth and beautiful, the trailer didn't really give much away so I'll leave you with a breakdown of the plot so far (via Wikipedia).
Here's a little clip about the story; The story revolves around a runner named Faith and her struggle to free her sister from a corrupt government. She is a young woman appearing to be of Japanese descent. Her parents were killed and she was forced to grow up on the street, later becoming a runner. Faith was taught not to rely on modern forms of communication, partially because the ruthless police state prefers eavesdropping every chance they get. As Faith attempts to rescue her sister, while running messages for the criminal underworld, she gets caught up in a series of events which lead to her being pursued by the totalitarian government. Acting as Faith's guide is a mysterious character named Mercury, who will help Faith in her attempt to outwit and overcome the many government agents that are out to eliminate her.
And the outline from DICE; In a city where information is heavily monitored, agile couriers called runners carry sensitive information on foot via the rooftops and skyways. Usually the police leave them alone - they have bigger fish to fry - but now something has changed...
Play as Faith, the best and most agile of all runners, in an adrenaline-fuelled race to save her sister’s life as she unveils a bigger plot involving the whole city and the runners. Mirror’s Edge is an action-adventure game that revolutionizes the genre by introducing a full body experience with dynamic 1st person movement and combat, in an immersive modern-day universe and with a socially charged storyline.
Yes, I know it's been front paged but I wanted to add my thoughts.
Yeah, it looks very cool, though the first-person view was a bit nauseating, don’t you think? I was slightly queasy after viewing the trailer for the first time.
But of course it's ok because your a regular (and a girl). If someone new did this (who wasn't a girl), it would be a total shit storm (because of their not girlness). ;p
I'm happy with you, anyways I'm super excited about this.
Anyways I've posted William Gibson on every other cblog about this so why stop now. I hope the story is inspired by his books specifically the bridge trilogy specifically Chevette Washington who is awesome.
@Samit, I thought that at first and cried it was third person. After watching the trailer for the 4th time, I realised I quite liked it. So either 1st or 3rd I'd be very happy with it.
@NotAZombie It doesn't matter if I'm a regular of if I have a vagina. I haven't just posted the video which is what most people do. My contact in EA sent me the video and I had not check the from of Dtoid. ALSO this is not just a "check the video" post, I'm actually talking about it. Which is why its called "Mirrors Edge - My thoughts" instead of first look at mirrors edge.
I'm getting the same vibe that I did with Marc Ekko's Getting Up game. Hopefully unlike that this is, you know, good. :)
The trailer really made it look pretty linear. Hopefully it won't be though, because that isn't what Parkour is about. Hopefully the tattoos have a meaning too, as I found them rather distracting.
If you must know it was in a cblog a bit below yours. Whatever though to be honest... this is a good read.
Women as main characters? AHAHAHA women can't be main characters. As if a WOMEN could be strong enough to have an important role in a video game. All women know how to do is SUCK DICK!!
Hmm... I just hope this game plays as well as they make it look. I'd like a change from the typical "enemies run down hallway to hug my shotgun" approach to games.
@Heretic
Velvet Assassin - Female main
Portal - Female main
Mirrors Edge - Female main
Tomb Raider - Female main
Dino Crisis - Female Main
Resident Evil - lots of female mains
Parasite Eve - Female Main
Some Final Fantasys - Female main
Haunting Ground - Female main
Rule of Rose - Female main
I could go on and on :p
This is I feel is gonna be this a special game. It could be the FPS answer, to what Tomb Raider has been to the third person games for ages.
There's nothing wrong with female characters as leads, but while No One Lives For Ever and Perfect Dark/PDZ led the way, some have shyed away from it. And if it worked for Lara Croft, there's no reason why it couldn't happen again.
Fun in games, will only be held back if you let it, for silly reasons like female characters. Must we always be a muscle bound grunt?
Hey I was just kidding, sorry if I didn't make that clear. I was just playing off of the fact that some girls get preferential treatment around here. In this case there was none but I made a joke about it.
even if this game turns out to be a disappointment, I still want it just to enjoy that freaking art direction. As of today this is high on my list of do wants.
This is the first time I have gone back after watching a standard definition trailer to watch it again in HD. The Edge article a while back got me interested but this trailer has gotten me properly excited. Hopefully this'll be the game Heavenly Sword wasn't.
I'll believe that the actual game plays like this AND works when I see it. Remember how people touted the perspective in Breakdown, which also did this "new" thing for FPS? And that didn't work out that well, or the cool animations only happened at scripted events. While you normally only had the usual stock animations.
So fuck it, I'll believe it's different from Breakdown when there actual gameplay footage from a guy playing it. Till then: DO NOT WANT!
P.S. It took me almost an hour to find the name of Breakdown, thanks Tamz!
Actually Pew, what Breakdown touted is that it would realistically and it did, you moved just like a real person would, Condemned 2 did the same thing.
@Reaprar
What's with you dude? You're being more of an obnoxious jackass thant usual.
@ Heretic
Way to go man, you keep that "gamers are nerds that don't know how to talk to women" stereotype alive.
Anyway, the game looks amazing, VERY MUCH DO WANT.
Yeah, and then you found out that you could do a certain set of moves. And sometimes you had some scripted stuff where there was more animations, like the kind you saw in the early trailers. Sounds familiar?
Hum, looks good BUT i have a feeling it will disappoint. Just get that gut feeling when i see a game marketed by EA... but then again Burnout werent too bad.
Needs Demo!! SOON!
BTW - Song is pretty awesome, i cant find the composer so i assume its made by a composer working on the game. Heres the link to the wav. file:
Loving the leg 'round the head take down... Looks lovely, I'm sure they will add more detail before release. The weather looks nice too. What a nice clear sky!! OOhhhh, I sound like me mother.
Definitely looks reeeeally nice. :) she has a nice design too, not too over the top. I love the design of the city rooftops too... definitely gotta look out for more on this one.
Man, that looks interesting. I mean, I think it would be awesome to see all of the animations but I guess doing it in first person could be epic. I'll have to keep my eye on this one as well. You are now my contact for this game athiestium..I will form my thoughts on it according to what you say. Just so you know.
i like the style of the game the coloring is over the top. alot of brightness and blueness. the game is gunna be fun as hell, if the video is accurate. also i have no objection to a female main character, but an asian. how many GOOD games had asian main characters. go cook sum rice bitch.
