If anyone has been looking for something different FPS wise then Mirror's Edge is probably going to be one that excites you. It seems the art of 'parkour' is not something just for Altier in Assassins Creed but also heading to this new genre of FPS Action.
This is defiantly a title I will keep my eyes on, along with Faith and a .45 and Velvet Assassin. I'm really excited about what the game has to offer. I really enjoyed free running in Assassins Creed and can't wait to do it in a funky FPS style. That trailer was completely in game footage, it smooth and beautiful, the trailer didn't really give much away so I'll leave you with a breakdown of the plot so far (via Wikipedia).
Here's a little clip about the story; The story revolves around a runner named Faith and her struggle to free her sister from a corrupt government. She is a young woman appearing to be of Japanese descent. Her parents were killed and she was forced to grow up on the street, later becoming a runner. Faith was taught not to rely on modern forms of communication, partially because the ruthless police state prefers eavesdropping every chance they get. As Faith attempts to rescue her sister, while running messages for the criminal underworld, she gets caught up in a series of events which lead to her being pursued by the totalitarian government. Acting as Faith's guide is a mysterious character named Mercury, who will help Faith in her attempt to outwit and overcome the many government agents that are out to eliminate her.
And the outline from DICE; In a city where information is heavily monitored, agile couriers called runners carry sensitive information on foot via the rooftops and skyways. Usually the police leave them alone - they have bigger fish to fry - but now something has changed...
Play as Faith, the best and most agile of all runners, in an adrenaline-fuelled race to save her sister’s life as she unveils a bigger plot involving the whole city and the runners. Mirror’s Edge is an action-adventure game that revolutionizes the genre by introducing a full body experience with dynamic 1st person movement and combat, in an immersive modern-day universe and with a socially charged storyline.
Yes, I know it's been front paged but I wanted to add my thoughts.
I turn on my TV this morning to check out the news. BBC News was the first thing I switched too and there were four people sat on a sofa talking about GTA4. Oh god! Before I had time to start panicking it was a very fair debate.
There was a young male (probably between his 20-30's) who got some good, non interrupted air time to say his piece - which was basically how he's been playing violent games for years and plays rugby, which is considered a violent sport too. He feels unaffected. The other guy sat next to him only felt worried about kids getting hold of the game and that people might see the violence and copy it - but he wasn't an arrogant prick about it Then text messages were read out and they all pointed to "don't blame the game. blame the parents".
And by some freaking miracle the female caster said "I find it very hard to talk about something I haven't played. I'd rather play it and talk about it first" then they all laughed and the casters bantered about how difficult the controller was.
So yeah! Not all news channels are ran by idiots! Genuine concerns were made and they discussed it and it ended on a positive note /hi5 for BBC.
Seeing as all the cool kids on Destructoid are doing this, I thought I'd join in. This is my current gaming rig which is small. I've had to pack my C64 & SNES away as there is no space and they are currently just collecting dust. Ignore the disgusting green walls & peach curtains. This is a temporary room I am staying in while I save up for University/Life plans.
This is the full view, holy crap so much shit. I really love little trinkets and such. Figurines, cases, merchandise. Which is why there is random crap... everywhere!
More detail on where I keep most of my crap.
I don't know if you've noticed... but I have dtoid stickers everywhere. Winner gets sessy prize for counting how many :O
Snake is so cyute <3 I love Phist for giving it to me~
My current wallpaper is some chick, all done in photoshop, the artist is Marta Dahlig. Really nice stuff. I can't remember where I found it, but red is my favourite colour.
Every dtoider needs something robot themed by their gaming rig - total new rule :O
While there are many tried and failed UK dedicated Games Trade websites, this one seems to be a more promising approach. I signed up after seeing a news segment about it in MVC (which is always a good thing) so I thought a bunch of you would like to check out this new games trade site. While you can have American accounts on the website most of the games on there currently are British. It's well worth a look and a rid of some games you just don't play anymore.
So Destructoid doesn't like blogs with any foreign characters in their title. So my plan to have "I'm ready to Friday" in Russian backfired. I didn't want to just have "I'm ready to Friday" because 1) I didn't want to steal Topher's thunder and 2) The Heavy in Russian sounds bad ass.
So apart from my awesome new t-shirt I got this morning (check gallery below). I'd thought I would let you know what's been going down lately.
- I've been having orgasms about Lara Croft, Daniel Craig, Matt Bellamy and more in this week's podcastle.
- I'm on yesterdays American inside xbox update. Check out the COD4 boot camp video and I'm in it for a few seconds. The British version was a lot longer mind you, and I talk more. This one I look like a messy twat :D
- I have fallen in love with PC Gaming again. TF2 I love you. Audiosurf I love you. Portal I still love you. I even installed my old copy of The Sim's. I still hate it... but I played it! Tomb Raider won't install on my computer for some reason so I hooked my PS2 back up.
- I got a wonderful message saying that I have been invited to this years Games Media Awards without even badgering or emailing them, this time I won't get shit face drunk *high five*
- I've got some projects coming up, including a possible interview with the British frag dolls? LOL LOL OLOLOLOLOLOLOL
- I found a copy of Persona 3 in England! Good luck getting copies at GAME as they are all being recalled.
- I finally got to finish Half Life 2: Episode 2 and I haven't cried like that since FF7.
- I've been playing Lost Odyssey a lot more and getting back into the RPG roll <3
- I had a dream about getting the COG achievement on Gears of War.. I went on my achievement list this morning to check.. I have one more COG to get.
- Rio did amazing fucking fanart and I nearly wet myself.
- I had over 150+ friend requests since that bloody video on inside xbox was posted. I have to keep denying but every time I deny a new one pops up. z0mfg girls on the interbutts.
- I am actually getting excited about the new GTA game... holy fuck!?
I know I know, Tomb Raider news. There is more going to be coming however, so get used to it! All short and sweet too. Main news is that the final Lara model is finished - they have plumped her face up to bit which makes her look a lot better in my opinion. She looked way to gaunt previously and now she just looks beautiful. They have also really reworked her whole face compared to the Legend and Anniversary versions of Lara, making her more realistic and believable. She's still got big lips and tits but that's just how she was designed originally.
Sadly there are only 2 artwork renders which we have all seen before. So far we know that this TR is set around the ancient Mayan calender and this means we will mostly be trekking around Mexico and central America, I refreshing change. There are pyramids in Mexico whoever, they are small ones.. but I have no idea if that makes a difference.
Some main differences with this game is that motion capture is being used for the first time. This will be big news to some and a surprise to others. It certainly was a surprise to find out all previous Lara titles were animated by hand and without capture technology. Olympic gymnast Heidi Moneymaker (ironic name) will be acting out most of Lara'spsychical movements while Keeley Hawes (returning from Legend and Anniversary) gets the voice work done.
Holy crap! Yes, old PC got owned and therefore yesterday was the birth of Mr Bubbles, my new PC! So that means one thing - Team Fortress 2. Yeah baby, when I get some spare cash I'm shoving TF2 onto this thing and getting ready for some epic luls etc etc. Mikey I'm looking at you.
So why am I making a blog? Well, it's not a great PC.. it was cheap and I will upgrade the card and RAM (charlie? Phist?) at some point in the future. For now I shall write down the basic spec and you guys can tell me what are my must haves PC wise. I am sure someone will convince me to overclock it eventually.
Spec 2.66ghz Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 Dual Core
2GB DDR2 667MHz
250GB SATA II
NVIDIA 8500GT 512MB PCI-E Graphics
So being that my brother was more of the PC gamer than I ever was I am all excited about what are my must haves. My steam is open and I already obviously have;
Counter Strike (not source)
Portal
Team Fortress 2 (when I have the cash) Audiosurf (also when I have the cash) Command & Conquer 3
What else do I need? What are you dtoiders playing? Can I has happy :D As always check the right hand bar for my steam id and send me a friend invite :-D
So we've all just seen the news. I am here to join the mass of bitching about the idiocy that is EA and frustration of being a British gamer and I am very sure this will all come out on the podcastle.
Let me break the numbers down for you. If I was to have a full Rock Band 'experience', I will be forking out a rather hefty £180. £49.99 for the game and then £120+ for the instruments. No bundle package means no savings, so lets only hope our 'trusty' retailers will come up with some kind of solution. £180 is around $360, now I quickly checked Amazon.com and their price for a bundle package is $147.99. At that part did the game & controllers nearly triple in price!!? I don't understand it at all!
I was never really into Guitar Hero that much and after playing Rock Band round Phist's house during my America trip, I was very excited about picking up the game. People are my work were also interested in playing the game so I would of had people to play with too! A may release! Everything was going so well... why EA why!?
So here I am sat here, sad panda and all. I was so excited to see that the download content will be the same and that I'd have my Still Alive's and my funs and my musics and my bands. I would has my multiplayers and my friends and I would has famous times. Now I only has sads and tears. Will I still buy it? I get 25% off... it's temping.. still :(
I just got back from the Call Of Duty 4 Boot Camp Event in some Car Park in Soho, London. Don't ask me why it was in a car park, because I can only list many complaints about how fucking cold it was and that people should know gamers can't play with cold hands! However the setting was rather cool with sandbags and demolished cars surrounding a large room of linked up consoles and army ration food. What were we all freezing our arses off for? The new COD4 Map Pack!
So the maps are - Kill House, Broadcast, Creek and China Town. This was a beautiful variety pack with something for everyone, the maps are not only visually stunning but also extremely fun to play. While China Town was more of a let down, it was still a beautifully skinned map. It's just all the fun parts of it's original in COD2 just got ruined by the huge martyrdom spam fest that ensued every time I spawned the level gave off enough nostalgia to kick in your memory map. I'd run around some corners with complete confidence and then suddenly have a confusing stop and realise that I am lost!
Kill House is pretty much the new shipment in case you didn't know, it's the maps your going to run the majority of your private sessions in and the one map that drives everyone insane. I would of rather had a proper closed off Kill House than this version however it is a fun map, much larger than shipment but still full of quick kill insanity. There is a very pointless sniper tower in the center that offers no protection at all and would be a bitch to climb to in the first place but amusing watching people attempt it.
Broadcast brought back frustrating memories of the TV station in Veteran but runs beautifully in multiplayer. Plenty of quick corners and open spaces to keep a nice balance in the map. It will probably become a good camping map if your one of those cheeky bastards who feels the need to do that, I was also surprised to see that the outside was used the most even though it's the smallest portion of the map. This might be just because we only had around 8 people in the match I was playing so we could find each other but I am sure once the maps are live people will be hiding in every nook and cranny!
Last and but not least is Creek, my personal favourite. The new Overgrown, which isn't a bad thing. If you want a sniping map you've got it! If you want a run and gun map, you've got it! If you want a tactical map, you've got it! Creek just seems to embody everything I wanted in a COD4 map perfectly. Not only is there plenty of trees to get hidden in with a ghilli suit, there are plenty of caves and small buildings and jump out and ravage someone. This will be the new favorite map (sorry Backlot) and I can't wait for it to come live.
So what about the event? I was surprised about the amount of people and promotions they had. A bunch of scantily clad "Joystiq Junkie" girls were walking around handing out t-shirts to those who beat them (which didn't seem a problem with anyone). There were a few male employees doing the same and I challenged one and beat him for my t-shirt, ironically I was the only person to beat him that night too.
There was a tournament which I managed to get all the way to the finals. I hit 1st place on the 12 a side on Creek (need to be in top 3 to progress), 6th place on the semi-final on Broadcast (and I needed to be in top six to progress) and then I think I got 13th in the final out of 18 people. Gutted I didn't win the nice 52" TV or the 32" second prize, I was still happy I managed to get so far. Obviously I got a little attention from people crowding round my screen seeing as I was the only female in the final. Actually, I got a lot of attention. After finally walking in and nabbing a console I had photographers coming over every 2 mins (I would of made an effort if I knew it would happen) and then Xbox 360's Acey Bongo's asked me if I would answer some questions for inside xbox. Yeah, that means I'll be on INSIDE XBOX for European gamers very soon, check it out sometime <3
Apart from that it was a great night and I really enjoyed myself. Maps are out on the 4th so everyone start playing again!
