My name is arbsnotdead, arbee for short. I'm a second class citizen who loves american and japanese video games, movies, and their porn. What kind of second class citizen ma , you might ask? I am Filipino, and I am proud of being one. I am not racist, nor am I a Patriot, I just love my race for being as we are culturally diverse as the japanese. I am a gamer. I do not settle for that fanboy crap. I used to be a PS3 fanboy, but that part of me has passed on and faded away.So just read on my blog. I post long and short blogs, so please bear with me. :)
Hi. I'm arbee. arbsnotdead for short. I live in sunny southern California, and I love video games. Why do I love video games? Because i have a deep understanding and connection to video games. They speak right through me, and make me finish them over and over again. Video games make my own world go round. Without Video games, my world is flat, and i would just be going left and right. Video games give me a cycle within me. I don't know exactly what it is, but it's a cycle that keeps me going through life. They somehow broadened my mind to different worlds and perspectives. I prefer video games than movies, but I still love movies.
I was born in the year 1990, i was raised in the 90s, loving pop punk, grunge, then punk itself, and ska music. Oh, and reggae too. I was born in the Philippines. Lived there for 17 years of my entire life. I am super fluent in ENGRISH, and I am proud to type this post as the Pacquiao versus Clottey fight is on. (GOOOOO MANNY!!!) Back in the Philippines, my first console I ever owned was the Super Nes, and boy that was a good console. I used to play the shit out of Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3, Super Mario World (japanese version), a LOT of Power Ranger games, Earthworm Jim, Super Mario Kart, and yes, how could i forget CHRONO TRIGGER. After that gen I owned a PSone. I never had the chance to own a genesis since i lived and the Philippines, and budget was always tight down there. I was really jealous to my friends who own a genesis and play the fuck out of Sonic 3. I was so green with envy back then. I was lucky enough to even own video game consoles in the first place back then. So back to the PSone. My family used to own a Video Game rental business back in 99. And boy was business booming. Our business back then was like an internet cafe. We would place 5 television sets on separate tables, and place two chairs for each table. Then we put on some cubicles for "privacy". We charged 20 pesos an hour(that would be 50 cents here), but at our opening day, we let customers play for free. Awesome huh? After 2 years of operation, we had to close it down for financial reasons. Business was fine, we had people playing everyday, most of them were street kids ditching school, which only had to wash cars for dough, so that they could play at our store or buy cigarettes. But like I said, we had to close it down because our employees were stealing some of the day's money, and we just couldn't trust someone else to look after the store(and law enforcement were getting strict about piracy. All our games were pirated PSone discs and the consoles themselves. LOL). So Game Drive Computers just had to close down. That was a neat store name too. Lucky for me though, I got to keep one PSone console, while the others were being sold to some friends of mine. We had the phat PSones. A year after we closed down the store, and I was having the time of my life playing games for my PSone, I remember i was playing MGS1and it was my 5th playthrough. Anyway, my dad told me sony just announced the PS2. I was "thrilled". But unfortunately, i never got to own a PS2 until i got here in the US, and that was back in 2007. But anyway, I knew i wasn;t going to get a PS2, so i just kept playing my PSone games. But as time flew by, I was getting tired of the PSone. And the PSone was likely my last gaming console ever until 2005. Then something else came out from the dark.
When I was in 4th grade, my elementary school classmates introduced me to these games called "Counter-Strike" and "Starcraft". I was hooked. Played them everyday at the internet cafe right across the school. The first hour would be a session of Counter Strike, we would always choose de_dust, or de_dust2. Then the other hour starcraft. I SUCKED back then. Not just in Starcraft, but in Counter Strike too. But i played those games anyway. Those were my games back in my elementary years.
When I was in High School(the Philippines don't have any middle schools. After 6th grade, we would start our freshman year at some Catholic School), a new gaming fad surfaced, and i do not think it will die in the old country. That game is known to all as DotA. I used to rip at DotA. I loved playing strength and Agi characters, but I despised Int characters. After a few years of DotA, I wanted something special on my Birthday. So i asked my mom and dad to get me this new thing Microsoft made called the "Xbox". Amidst from my mediocre grades and F's, they somehow agreed. So i was happy. They bought me the Halo 2 limited edition Xbox(which is still in the Philippines right now, so is my Snes. As for my PSone, I have no idea where that went). It was awesome. I has certainly been a while since i was gaming inside my room. It felt refreshing and convenient. I did not have any access to LIVE back then because $50 back in the Philippines is expensive. So it was all Coop in my big ass 30 inch SDTV.
In December of 2007, I had to come here to good ol' US of A. Land of the free(yeah right). And as of right now, I am still an immigrant. Honestly, I cannot wait to be a citizen, I want to enlist in the USN to boost up my days of citizenship, but unfortunately there's a long ass waiting list. SO, anyway, I arrived here in america. I was lucky enough to not have an accent, but sometimes i still do slip up some words, but now, I speak like some white dude getting high in the beach waiting for that perfect wave. I have a surfer accent. I finally bought my dream console the "PS2". Well, it was from my cousin. I bought a LOT of games, because I know i have a lot of catching up to do. I bought God of Wars 1 and 2, FFX, Guitar Hero, and all the kingdom hearts.Out of the ps2 games I played, the Kingdom Hearts series was my personal favorite. Some friends of mine recommended to play the team Ico games, i really want to get both, but I'll just wait for the remastered editions. I'm pretty sure Sony's coming up with something.
In June of 2008, I was in line at a local gamestop to get the MGS4 limited edition 80gb PS3 bundle pack. The PS3 is my first console ever bought in american soil. I could even say its more american than me. It's also my first console for this generation. I didn't have an HDtv back then, so i had to be patient with my 12 inch wee TV. It sucked, but playing metal gear solid 4 on it was worth it. After a few months and a lot more games coming in, I bought an Xbox 360 and a 24 inch LCD computer monitor that runs on 1080p. As of right now, my PS3 library exceeds my 360 library since the PS3 came first. I love both consoles. But i was a huge PS3 fanboy back then, but i keep my cool.
So that was it. I'm a second class citizen who plays a lot of games, and thinks that video games are a huge part of life. Some people may disagree with me and all, but fuck them. I love video games and as long as developers are still making great games, I'm still sticking to my consoles and handhelds(psp, dsi) and play the shit out of every AA to b rated game out there.
