DToid Studied @ University
april | 6:05 PM on 09.30.2009 25 comments

Hey guys, I need your help! I'm doing a university study about the Destructoid site, the whole online community really and I would love it if you replied to this blog with how, why and what you use the Destructoid site for!

I also posted the same question in the meet and greet forums (since it was my first forum post) so if you want you could go there and reply too, whatever's easier for you! I know "forums, we have them" but I just wanted to reach as many people as I could.

Thanks,

Also, cocks.

Here's my C-Blog V Card and a short Pixel Ranger Review
april | 12:30 PM on 09.16.2009 26 comments

Hey I'm April, this is my first c-blog. I like retro games and facebook games with a few exceptions. I especially enjoy whooping my boyfriend's ass at Street Fighter or Marvel vs Capcom or any light gun game you can find at an arcade. Anyways on with my review!

Pixel Ranger, a casual Facebook game, uses a novel mechanic where instead of having a life bar you have an ammo count and when you run out you die. So as you shoot weird floating creatures with your shotgun, bullets fall down and you pick them up for more ammo. Simple.

The art is kinda neat, it's pixelated for a retro vibe. It uses bright neon sprites against a dark background. Oh, I amost forgot, the character you get to be is a cowboy with a shotgun and ten gallon hat.

Sound, it has it, 11/10.

Seriously though, the sound, I find, is annoying but lucky for you it has its very own mute button. So you can listen to your playlist of old Western movie soundtracks to get in the mood, or just any music that tickles your fancy.

The controls are simple, basic arrow key moving and mouse to aim and shoot. There's also some platforming movements in it too for added excitement! Yippee!

A challenge option is also present, but I can't seem to figure out how it works. You do however get to compare scores with your friends who also have allowed this game to be added to their profile. Not only do you get a numerical high score but after you die it rates you in the form of some kind of creature, including everything from an amoeba (you barely exist!) to a monkey (you think but not often) and smarter things too I'm sure, I just haven't made it there yet.

I'm probably not going to stop playing Pixel Ranger until I've beat it. I would recomend you give it a go it if you happen to be on Facebook.

Also, cocks.

 about me

Hey, I'm April and I'm a casual gamer. They say the first step is admitting you have a problem.

I like old school games and stupid facebook games that distract me from homework and studying. Also the Sims, they make me happy. The two main consoles I usually play are the NES and the Sega Genesis however I haven't been able to actually play either of them for a while now, however I do have a Sega emulator on my laptop. My boyfriend's also gotten me to try some of those new fangled first-person shooters like Half-Life 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2.

I'm currently playing:

- Pixel Ranger
- A Facebook Pac-Man clone
- A Facebook Bejewelled clone
