Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
They're kind of trained in dealing with this stuff.
Sorry, I can't help.
If it's any consolation, They were fantastic when my PS3 broke. (UK)
No, the system information is hard coded to your serial number, it will prompt you to format if you try this.
2. (Read if #1 is a NO) If so is there any way I could save my data?
Possibly, but you would have to crack into the PS3 system coding on the hard drive and manually extract the information, which is more then likely not possible.
3. Is there another way to get the game out other than the 2 methods I said above, without breaking the warrenty?
Not really sure, you may have to call SONY on this one.
4. Does Sony still fix the 60gig BC models (haven't called yet since I have to work all day at GameStop)?
They do, but I believe I heard they started charging more for them as the parts are becoming more scarce.
5. If I have to get it repaired would my saves be alright if I put it my old hard-drive or would that mess things up?
As said before, any hard drive you pop into a new SONY system, that was associated with an old SONY system will prompt you to re-format the drive.
6. Does Sony get your disc out for you when/if you get the system repaired?
Call them and ask, I've never had this happen. :)
Anyway the point is that you will get your game back, though I think it took longer for him to get the game back than the console. Ring Sony.
It's worth calling Sony and asking, but everything I've found says that they will reformat your HD, also it costs $150. I had the YLOD on my year old PS3 and they wanted $150, which combined with losing all my data led me to try PSR1. They will send your disc back as well, they have a part of the repair form covering it. I was able to eject my disc however, by turning it off/on in the back and holding eject.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do, I just know I wasn't about to pay Sony $150 to delete my Demon's Souls characters. And I really hate their harddrive auto-formating bullshit, which prevents you from buying a new system and swapping the drives. Also, when you get it back, back up your data .
