Professor Layton and The Stupidly Hard Math Puzzles
Zombutler | 5:12 PM on 04.06.2008 16 comments

I recently picked up Professor Layton and the Curious Village, and let it be known that it is a fantastic title. I have loved every minute of it so far. But some of these puzzles? damn. I don't know if I'm an idiot or what. Here is a puzzle from the early part of the game. Answers in comments, I will say when correct answer is said. Now of course, you can cheat and look it up online, but where's the fun? Don't ruin it for yourself.

Digital Digits

Imagine a digital clock. How many times will the clock display three or more of the same number in a row over the course of one day? In case you were wondering, the clock goes by 12 hour.

remember stuff like 12:22 and 10:00 in addition to your 5:55 and such.... also nothing single digit over 5 has triples. It's true, that one is a toughy. My girlfriend and I got stuck on it forever, luckily she eventually figured it out :)

I remember this one...it took a while till I realized that the 11:10, 11:11, etc all have 3 or more of the same number :-P

I honestly got so fed up with some of the math problems that I went to the comp sci department of my school and nerd farmed. There is NOTHING like having minions do your dirty work for you.

It took a few tries on this one but it was mainly because I double counted too much and stuff.

Yeah I had to write it all down on paper and think it through.....I have to say though, every time I get a 50 picarat on my first try, I feel like a fucking genius

12:22, 1:11, 2:22, 3:33, 4:44, 5:55, 10:00, 11:10, 11:11, 11:12, 11:13, 11:14, 11:15, 11:16, 11:17, 11:18, 11:19

x2 = 34 (I think I got 'em all)

Most of the puzzles in Prof. Layton aren't hard, per se, they just require abstract thinking. That being said I missed this one the first time around.

I thought that one was easy. The candle one had me stumped for a while though.

Sometimes the simpler the Riddle, the more complicated. Like my favorite gunslinger, I always over think riddles.

I think this is the best game to play with a friend/boyfriend/girlfriend/mom??why not. It really helps to have another person there to give their perspective of the puzzle. Gooo teamwork!!

shouldn't it be 18x2?

12:22 1:11 2:22 3:33 4:44 5:55 10:00 11:01 11:10 11:11 11:12 11:13 11:14 11:15 11:16 11:17 11:18 11:19

11:01 not counted? :(
