Googled for a Bioshock image and got this. Nothing to do with my post :D

Ok, I completed Bioshock early this afternoon (Don't worry, no spoilers) and I had a bit of a gaming moral point.

Should I trade the game in?

The game is fantastic, no doubt about that. I love the art style, the story, the tone, the music. It recalls the classic PC rpg/fps mashups (Deus Ex, System Shock (duh) and all that). It is definitely in my top ten favourite games.

All in all don't see the point of owning it any more. I've finished it, I'm curently broke, I need my gaming fix and it's only going to go down in price on trade ins. So I traded it in.

And it's not just achievement anxiety: I don't like playing through a game again and picking up all the little things. No orbs, no skulls, no cats. As much as I love the tapes and listening to them, there's a bit where you can something or not do something and if you don't do the something you can't get some of the tapes and plasmids. I'm not going to play the entire game again to get them back.

But I still felt weird about trading it in.

Any thoughts?

PS. Yes, I hear the cries of "SHOULD HAVE RENTED IT" already, but I have a cycle of trading in games constantly to get GAME credit and with the reward points on my card it means that I've got a perpetual motion machine of video game purchase. I haven't bought a game with queen-heads since Gears of War.

That image is the shits.

I can definitely see you trading in this game. It's a epic game but I don't see myself replaying it anytime soon. I on the other hand have an compulsion to keep every game I really enjoy for some reason...

What's the name of that site where you trade your games in for other games?

I'm the sort who hordes shit like Smaug in the Lonely Mountain, I never trade in games. But I will buy them used on the cheap to add to my collection.

I too faced a similar dilemma when i worked out how short the game is.

So, i decided to play it on Medium the first time through and do what i can with the intention of leaving it a while until i play it on Hard mode.

That way i get ot play it again, and still get achievements and stuff.

That said, i'm well on my way to getting all the achievements bar 'Beat the game on Hard mode' anyway.

Wasn't difficult. I just made sure to grab the two tapes in Welcome to Rapture, pick up tonics as and when they appear at the Gatherers Garden and made sure to leave Sander Cohen alive.

Atm i think i may have missed a tape or two in Hephaestus but if i can get back there from Point Prometheus onwards, i'm good. If not, i have an old save i can use so it's not a problem.

Having said that, you aren't going to get your full money back whatever you do so you can either get £20 (30 if you're lucky) from a trade in or you can put it aside and play other stuff until you get a hankering for more BioShock.

Also, something else worth saying.

Maybe you should have savoured the experience and not spent a whle day playing it in your pants.

Obviously that's the best way to get some gamin's done but when it's a game as short as BioShock is, kind of a bad idea if you aren't intending to play it more than once or get all the Achievements.

Some games I keep, some games I get rid of. If it's got good memories attached, or is very replayable, I keep it. Otherwise, I ditch it. If you don't think you'll pick it up in 5 years and say "hey I should dig out my old box and try this again!", you might as well dump it.

I think one day, you will want to play the game, but by that time, the game should be fairly cheap, so that's sort of an advantage.

Although I do agree, you should probably sell games on ebay. Gamestop and EB games never seem to give you a games worth.

I tried to savour it, but it was like a delicious cake sitting in front of me. I scarfed it down like a starving man, and now I look at my GAME gift card like an empty plate.
...
Mmmmm, cake.

Yeah, I'm not the hoarder type, so I suppose it was the right choice in the end. Sure trade ins screw you, but I like instant gratification. Also, I don't have an eBay account because I can't be trusted with a credit card :D

Usually I'll play something once and not play it for ages (ie. years) when I go "Hmm, Bioshock was pretty good" I can play a second hand copy on my Xbox 720 or whatever's out by then. I still feel a little bad about it. I suppose it was the hype about the game being TEH BEST EVAR.

The only games I have left and not traded in are ones that have a really long life, so decent multiplayer or a reason to replay (like co-op).
