This looks to be the third companion post to the original written by Mecha Jesus earlier today. Of course, the two responses were done by Tenro and Scary Womanizing Pig Mask. Just to remind everyone of the rules, here are the three that Mecha Jesus set down:
1. Only "good" characters, in the sense that you're playing a protagonist party.
2. You're playing a video game, so you're not in the party.
3. Nine characters that rotate out. You might only have 3 out at a time, but this is the group that saves the world.
Right. Now that's been taken care of, we'll jump to it.
Cliff Fittir
The man is hands-down one of the best tanks I've ever seen. For the most part he uses his bare fists as his weapons during the course of Star Ocean 3 (SHUT UP! It was a good game!) and has some of the coolest moves in the game. His Hammer of Might skill is especially dominating. See the video below for an example.
Yeah. I hope you know why I chose him now.
Roland Deschain (from the Dark Tower series)
For those inclined towards literature, I would hope that some of you recognize this character. This is the main character from Stephen King's magnum opus, The Dark Tower series. Obviously, Roland wields two guns that would pretty much make him an excellent ranged fighter.
****SPOILERS****
Did I mention the fact that he pretty much slaughters an entire town? or the fact that his guns are made from Excalibur?
***END SPOILERS***
Yeah, he's a badass.
Jansen Freidh
At this point in the construction of my list, I decided that I had to start looking at mages. Of course, the first one that popped into my head was Jansen. The man knows his magic and is a ladies man to boot. So I've got a solid back row man as well as some comic relief.
Gutts
Those of you who know me know that I can't get through a post without mentioning Berserk at least once. As far as the series' main character would fair in an RPG, well suffice it to say that he'd be the Berserker or my group (pun not necessarily intended, but whatever). The man is probably the the closest thing to an unstoppable force that I can think of. Not to mention that he'd do well in a pinch when everyone one else in the party is KO'ed.
Professor Layton
This is pretty self-explanatory. The man would single-handedly solve every puzzle the party would come across. Of course, he would probably force you to solve another puzzle because the previous one reminded him of one. I guess having a genius does have it's drawbacks.
Ashton Anchors
Okay, I'll admit that this one looks a little light in the loafers, but believe me when I say that Ashton Anchors may very well be one of the best fighters in RPG history. Overall, a decent guy, he falls on the short side of luck when he accidentally gets possessed by a two-headed dragon. This isn't necessarily a bad thing since it results in him having a couple sweet moves. Not to mention that the man seems to have an unhealthy obsession with barrels.
Iron Man (specifically House of M Iron Man)
I know that some people may view Tony Stark as a bad guy these days, but for me, he's just another hero with something that needs tweaking in the personal problems department. As the final ranged character for my party, Iron Man is the ultimate death machine. His House of M equivalent is no lightweight when it comes to firepower. Sure I could have thrown in a Gundam instead, but take into account that Iron Man is still relatively normal sized.
I kind of ran out of ideas at this point, so if anyone is willing to throw out more suggestions as far as mages might go, please do so. I tried really hard to think of a white mage, but all I could think of was Scarlett Johansson in skimpy clothing. That's not bad is it?
Holy crap, I didn't think anybody else liked Ashton Anchors like I did. I absolutely abhor that game, because it took so many hours from me and I was never able to finish it, but Ashton was by far my favorite character, not only because he had those badass daggery thingies, but because of his obsession for barrels.

about me
Its hard to deviate from the standard laundry list of stuff that everyone puts in these things. I play games, but who doesn't? Of my 21 years here, I've played for 19 of them and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. I'm pretty down-to-earth and I like to think that I don't really have any allegiances to any particular company, so I don't really respond to threats of fanboyism. Right now I'm working on my Gamerscore with a 360 and maybe eventually a PS3, but not too soon. I've played just about anything this side of the sun but I always find myself going back to platformers and third-person action games.
If you want to know my favorite games, just ask. Throw some names out there and I'll tell you if I've played them and what I thought.

Now I remember why I traded Star Ocean 3 back in; it was a spamfest once you got decent moves!
Other than that, good concepts here and nobody said you had to have a full 9.

Ashton kicks ass. Star Ocean 2 kicks ass. Ah, nostalgia.
This is a meaty party. A bit light on the magic, but I guess you don't need that much when you mow everything over. :)
Yeah I know what you mean. I honestly couldn't think of good mages besides Jansen.
Roland Deschain, greatest pick ever.
I didn't recognize most of those characters, but they seem cool based on your descriptions, but I was happy to see Professor Layton there :) Good job!
Good looks on the Roland Deschain.
