Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's David Reeves stated that the 60GB PS3 is going the way of the 20GB model and being discontinued in late July in favor of the 80GB version, meaning that the console is still $599 American.

But that is only half of the story here. I have a very good source within a major Canadian retailer that guarantees that despite the lack of a cut at E3 this week, the Xbox 360 will drop $100 Canadian across all SKU's. When? Sooner than you think. AUGUST 1ST.

If true, Microsoft is definitely turning up the heat this holiday.

yeah, i just read on another site that Sony was discontinuing the 60GB model after they are gone, so it will be back to one SKU at $599, HUGE fucking mistake on Sony's behalf i think.

I guess M$ didn't know about this. They said that they didn't need to drop price as a reaction to Sony dropping the PS3 price. But it looks like Sony isn't really dropping price, they are just upgrading the thing. I guess M$ was just planning on doing this anyways. Hell, if you can get a 360 for cheaper than a Wii, that is just crazy.

Yeah how has only one person mentioned so far that the 60gb PS3 isn't being killed off by Sony (well, yet at least) and they shot down that rumor.So A) there goes that. B) I agree with the fact that MS just ate it hard with having to boost the warranty for failure rates, so I'd be suprised to see them drop prices when they already just lost so much money. And also, you don't think somehow this would have gotten out through someone working in/affiliated with Microsoft first if it's true? Not just 'a major canadian retailler', how would said [note:random] retailer be privy to such information.

Ok? I didn't invent Jesus, I got some information from my friend who knows things. Could be bullshit, chances are it is legit.
I have nothing to gain from this, just thought it was relevant to the current price/SKU fiasco going on in the Sony camp.
I've frequented Dtoid for the better part of a year without drama, and while I don't particularly like Sony, I DO like what Microsoft is doing and have been an XBL subscriber since day one and will voice my opinion when a company deserves props or fucks up.

Having worked videogame retail, it is pretty legit to hear news from the buyers. This is why retailers will often accidentally leak information before the manufacturers if tight reigns are not put on their head office staff.

What a load of bull.I hate it when people go fanboy crazy over a damn rumor AND when it gets Dugg. 60 gig PS3 is $499 and XBox is still $399. Damn, if this is true, I'll sell my premium for an Elite. That black is sexy. It could be true. Like everyone said, it would be a big shock considering they just extended the warranty so they will lose a ton of money on that, and plus PS3 is still $100 more than 360 Premium. Do I believe it? No, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least bit.

Ron: Since our canuck dollar has been strong ($0.95), $100CAN would put our pricing in line with US pricing, we were getting screwed on an exchange rate that has been closing the 20% gap for the last 2 years of the 360's life cycle. The DS Lite recently dropped in price here to reflect that even though there was no US drop, Comprende? lol
