Great list! I personally love SH1's music (and the music from the movie -- holy crap is it awesome). I haven't had a chance to play SH2 yet (still sealed in my game pile...yeah...it's been that long) but I plan to eventually!
Thanks! If you loved the movie's music then you'll be happy to know most of it came from SH2!!! Also some great tracks also came from SH3. If you haven't played that one yet too, you should check out one track called "Innocent Moon" - It was in the movie and was super creepy...I'll link it here for ya:

A lovely list. The save room theme from Resident Evil resonated with me. Breathing room in a very intense moment. However, you left off the scariest video game music of all time:

@Occams electric toothbrush - Hahaha! Dammit...I should have put that in the "Special Mentions" section! :)
Zeni -- That makes perfect sense then! I can't view that link because of something about the country I live in...or something...anyway yeah I def will have to crack open SH2 sometime, I hear it's the best?
@Caiters - Sorry about that, damn YouTube sucks when your Laptop is confused as mine is (It's locked to two regions of where I live, Japan and UK, so sometimes can't tell if its a regionalized, sorry that happens sometimes! :(
SH2 if you are a Silent Hill fan is the best yes. Reason for that simply is story and the symbolism behind it all:
Play it first, then think about it (depending on what ending you get). Then think really deep about what you saw (or see on your 2nd playthrough) and I mean from the very start until the ending. Its all symbolic...nothing has been made like that in a game since (Remember even the noises/music you hear are symbolic).
SH3 is very good too, quite a bit darker BUT this is largely due to FX and advances in the tech back then, still good.
SH4 is very different game, but if you accept it for what it is and don't compare it to other Silent Hill games, it is very very very dark game with a very nice symbolic plot (and SH2 has many references to the events in SH4!).
SH5 was made entirely by an American team except Akira who did the music. Basically its action paced Silent Hill mixed with Jacobs Ladder (Tim Robbins movie). Its good but ruined by one part when a big gigantic monster falls through the floor and the Police Officer guy says to you:
"You cuff him, I'll read him his rights"................no. :(

Ah I've heard that about SH2. I'm currently playing through...I think the 6th one? It's called Homecoming and so far it's pretty creepy. I actually had to stop playing it because it got too hard (trapped in the sewers with those spider monster things is NOT fun), but the music/feel of the game is neat. I really liked SH1 but I also stopped playing that 'cause it got too scary at night. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother playing these games but I LOVE them so much!
Haha yea I get ya :) Honestly its all relative...when I first played SH2 I kept thinking about what I saw and found it hard to sleep at first, it was that disturbing in that sense (I was alot younger though and never played Resident Evil or any other "scary" games before, so I didn't know what I was in for!)
However its like playing the most difficult setting in a game, you end up training your brain what to expect. So the most disturbing things you see, the most awful things you see, the more dulled and stronger your senses become...but, I don't know if that's necessarily a good thing, right? - Only helps in games I guess :/
Anyway yea SH: Homecoming's shortcoming (no pun intended) is the combat particularly. Its way too scarce on ammo in the part your at AND the monsters you fight in there are just cheap. This is why I didn't enjoy it so much....its not even fair - It becomes formulaic process though of preparation after-awhile, just remember your not alone in that boat, EVERYONE struggled in those damn sewers... :(
SH2 + SH3 aren't like that. SH 4 is a little convoluted with its difficulty, you kinda need to know what your doing since there is alot of "management" between jumping between worlds and going back to your apartment to save the game (When you play it you'll understand what I mean) - Its one of those games if you miss something then you WON'T get the good ending, bit cheap...typical Japanese game design though.
p.s You should play Amnesia: Dark Descent if you find SH1 scary haha! :)

Great list! Not only some wonderful soundtracks, but some of my favorite games to boot. I discovered the Siren soundtrack last year after picking the game up on the cheap, and have kept coming back to it again and again. Simply one of the most richly atmospheric and engrossing game soundtracks I've ever heard. "Hoshingoeika - New Translation" is incredible. I'm a big fan of your namesake, too, btw.
