This past Saturday, the burg of Brooklyn had the distinct pleasure of experiencing one of the most exciting and raucous chiptunes shows the city of New York has ever seen. It was a wild night of amazing performances, with all of NYC's 8-bit hometown heroes dressed as some of your favorite retro pop stars. Bit Shifter, Nullsleep, Glomag and Anamaguchi summoned the spirits of The Misfits, Depeche Mode, Joy Division, and Weezer, to bring us an entire night of awesome chiptune cover songs. The crowd was the largest I've ever seen at a Pulsewave show, comparable only to the kind Blip Fest is known for. Everyone had a blast, and I even met some new Dtoid friends! Scroll down to see some photo & video highlights:
The night started off with a good old fashioned sing-along as Anamanaguchi took to the stage and played some awesome Weezer covers. Afterward, Glomag seized control and hypnotized the crowd with a smattering of dark and brooding Joy Division tunes. Then came Nullsleep and his Gameboy re-inventions of Depeche Mode's saucy electropop hits, followed by Bit Shifter's set of rebellious, high-energy Misfits covers. All of this was enhanced several times over through the amazing visuals provided by Vblank and No Carrier.
The only performance I didn't get any pictures of was Nullsleep's, but there was a good reason - I ran into a couple of new Dtoid friends! I met up with KMCC and GunGr4ve, along with their significant others, all costumed as characters from Phoenix Wright and Portal! I still have no idea how any of them didn't win the costume contest because these dudes and dudettes had the best looking costumes in the joint, by far! OBJECTION!!!
KMCC and his wife Jill as Phoenix and Maya
GunGr4ve and his girlfriend Parasol, dressed as Aperture Scientists, with Companion Cube and Colt 45 at the ready
After the last set and the raffle drawings, it was finally time to unveil the Super-Secret MYSTERY GUEST! Throughout the night, people began to slowly notice a mysterious skeleton-masked stranger standing in the back, curiously observing the festivities. A curtain was set up on stage, and from behind it, the masked stranger appeared. The moment of revelation was here, and words simply cannot do justice to what occurred next. Watch the video below to see what happened:
IT'S RANDOM!!!!
All the way from Stockholm Sweden, Random exploded onto the stage with unforgettable fanfare! The crowd went absolutely nuts as the Swedish Squarewave Master rounded out the night with a series of hard-hitting dance tracks that ended in an enormous ovation, complete with stagediving.
Many thanks to all the folks at 2 Player Productions, 8bitpeoples and The Tank that helped organize this amazing event! See you all at BLIP FEST!

Zen Alabatross: Who did win the costume contest? I don't even remember winners being announced, perhaps due to the sweet sweet Colt 45...
