In a weekend full of long car trips, booze, games and walking on ATV trails, the Dtoid NY crew headed west last Saturday to visit the remains of the town of Centralia, PA. Centralia used to be a populated area, but underground coal mining activity soon led to out-of-control coal fires that made the town's evacuation necessary. Even today, the decades-old coal fires are still burning underground, as evidenced by the sections of abandoned highway littered with gaping fissures that belch out toxic fumes. It's even been said that Centralia was the
inspiration for the coal mining town in the Silent Hill movie. We later found out that we were not alone in this assumption.
Dtoiders in attendance: Tino, MechaMonkey, Cataract, Superflossy, DevonRiley, EternalDarkWing, Nintendoll, Petiepal, Black Yoshi and myself.
Check out all the creepy, adventuresome fun we had below:
SPOILERS: Shit gets rusty, all doors are locked.
Strangely enough, the only marginally well-maintained part of the town is its graveyard.
By far one of the creepiest things we found: one of the trails led to a clearing covered in soggy garbage.
Waldo didn't make it! ;_;
Luckily, Gordon Freeman left behind a weapons cache to aid us in our fight against the Combine
Creepy tree is creepy...
...and conveniently points in the direction of 'FIRE'.
Black Yoshi's graffiti discovery confirms the past presence of nerds. It says 'DO NOT TRUST BREEN'.
The beginning of the abandoned highway
The amount of graffiti here was insane
Hands down, the best graffiti I saw all day.
Giant fissure spewing toxic fumes in the middle of the road. Tino gets a good 'ol whiff.
.tiff was informed immediately of this earth-shattering discovery.
YAY! We didn't die!
All in all, a worthwhile trip. Afterwards we went back to Tino's place for drinking an vidja games. I'm sure Nintendoll will soon have photos and video from that portion of the evening as well.
LUCKY!!! I've always wanted to go to Centralia, after hearing all the stories about it's abandonment and coal-fires.
Gooood times :) And man that steam was hot..and sulfury.
That mine fire still has another 204 years left to go!.I'd check it out seeing as how i live in Pittsburgh but really all it seems to be is some fires and few houses, not to interesting for me. Seems like you guys had fun!

Hahaha awesome idea making the trip down there.
Did you guys get further into the town?
Tino, I'm still amazed by that. You're the man.
Son of a BITCH I wish I would've known about this.
I'm like an hour away from there and I could've seen you and Devon again.
