So you want to play the RE5 demo?
ZekeThePlumber | 3:02 PM on 12.05.2008 29 comments

As I'm sure most of you have heard, the Resident Evil 5 demo became available on XBL in Japan today. If you've followed big filth's blog or neogaf among other sites, you'll have heard about a trick about using a hotmail/windows ID account with a location set to Japan to trick your 360 into thinking you're in Japan and then just creating a temporary account to download the demo.

Well, it seems that Microsoft has wised up to the trick and when you attempt to download the demo you'll get a message along the lines of "This download is not available for your location." So unless you jumped on the opportunity right when it became available, you won't be able to to do this. BUT, if you still want to play the demo, there are other methods:

1) Download the 5 rar files here.

2) Click on any part and Winrar will automatically combine their contents. Extract the product to your hard drive.

3) Burn the "Contents" folder to a CD. (Note: When you burn the CD make sure the "Contents" folder is the first thing you see on the CD, not the "Resident Evil 5 demo" parent folder the contents folder is in or else it will not work.)

4) Insert into your Xbox and the disc will appear as a "Mixed Media" disc. Just go into your Games Library and Biohazard 5 will appear under your recently played demos.

5) Enjoy!

Yeah, I've only played a little bit of it thus far and just kept dying in the cabin. I'd probably be better off not trying to stay in one place. I'm somewhat unimpressed thus far but maybe it'll grow on me since I'm still stuck in the Gears 2 mindset.

Sheva is sexy as all hell though.

@ 007: You could have used one of your 4 free gold subscription demos that are available when you create a new account on your 360. If you already used them you were probably out of luck. Not that it matters now since it isn't possible to download it from XBL unless you are literally in Japan.

Rest assured though, the CD method works and you don't need a foreign account. (It won't work using a flash drive if anyone attempts that, not sure why though.)

Wtf? Am I the only one that didn't think RE4 was hard at all? I did love it though. I can't wait to try this at home. Thanks a ton for posting this!

RE4 is not hard on the Wii!

I am LOVING this game but there is a problem. The 360 controller is NOT meant for this game. I need a Gamecube controller stat! But there is an easier way to do this that doesn't require burning.

RE4 wasn't hard, with the exception of a few parts. This demo, on the other hand, is very much so hard.

I didn't think RE4 was particularly hard. I've beaten pro mode on the Cube version a few years back. RE4 on the Wii was a cake walk with the easy aiming for headshots and the auto-aim for the knife attacks to conserve ammo.

This demo is only hard cause of the controller!

the demo is hard cause of the massive amounts of zombies? and the lack of ammo. its soooo good though. especially with a friend in co op

@BSD

What's this "easier way" you speak of?

Controls are an improvement but still not exactly what I'd like, not being able to move and aim/reload is still a little bit obnoxious, but it IS resident evil after all, so I guess it'll slide.

And damn that giant axe guy.

I decided to download these as it didn't seem like a very big download. It took less than 10 minutes actually. I did what you said, extracting only one part and getting the "Content" folder. I burned it onto a CD as it was and tried it in my xbox, but the system wouldn't even read it.
Any clue as to what I was doing wrong?

I saw this in a random search: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=H7YMHZRY

Not sure if its legit but the file size is about right. Might help with all the unnecessary .rar files. I haven't tried it so download at your own risk.

Alot of people with the extraction problems I hear are using programs like 7zip. I used Winrar and haven't had a problem. Just double-click part1.rar and WinRar should open and the contents folder should be displayed then all you have to do is extract it to any location you want.

You can do this on an unmodded 360?

Yep, no mod necessary.

LOL @ BSD

I would imagine this would be great with a 360 controller. I honestly feel that the 360 controller is perfect for 3rd and 1st person shooters. Guess I'll find out in a bit. I'M EXCITED!
