Packers Confused, Favre Sends Reinstatement Letter

Well, I'm sitting here watching NFL network (I'm a huge fucking football junkie), and the Green Bay Packers are in a very tough situation now. Previous quarterback, Brett Favre (Who is also on the cover of Madden 09) has faxed a reinstatement letter, and it has been received by NFL head commissioner.

This leaves a difficult choice up to the Packers, who have repeatedly said that the team would become Aaron Rodgers' team, who has been the backup QB since coming into the NFL. Now with Favre back, it leaves a question. With him being worth $12.1 million, will they really spend that much to keep a guy on a bench, or will they trade him to another team?

You have to feel bad for Rodgers either way, as now he has to worry if he will even be first string this year. If he is, chances are Green Bay will for the first time ever, have to play against Favre in a different teams jersey.

(For people who are dumb as a rock, I'm posting this, as in Brad's post about what EA would do if he returned. I'm interested now. Anyone else interested in what's going down?)

Rodgers is the starter, he was there at training camp. He will start, no question about it. Favre can do whatever, but if he sits there then whatever, he'll be a backup.

If you were a true football junkie you might know this already. Go to espn.com and read. There is no way in hell Favre is starting for Green Bay. And I'm glad they are moving ahead without him in the future.

Still, they ought to fucking trade the guy if he wants to play so damn bad....

Excellent, and interesting all the same. It's too late in the game to change the cover of Madden 09 if he gets traded - but I wonder if he'll be listed on the Packers now instead of the "legend" free agent list or whatever.

By the way, you saw the simulation results with the Vikings, right Zserv?

Favre wouldn't take kindly to being on the bench, and the Packers don't wanna see him on another team. It's a real bad situation (for Rodgers).

EDS; here's the situation though, why would they pay 12.1 million to have him sit on the bench? It's a waste of resources. Favre's leaving for Green Bay tomorrow; he's getting his exam and then he'll be allowed at training camp. It's business, nothing personal.

@ zserv: I just read the newest story, and I see what you're saying. Can they cut him? Or will it effect the salary cap way too much?

I don't know what's going to happen, but I sure wish the guy would stay retired. He's got all the records; why add more INTs? Leave it alone in the hopes one day somebody else can break the INT record, and Bret Favre won't have any really ugly stats left.

That's the way it should be...

I don't think cutting him will be the smart decision; they want to make their team better. To do that, they're gonna have to decide whether or not Rogers or Favre is better for the team. If they choose Rogers, I think Favre will be traded. If Favre, we'll see a repeat of the last 17 seasons.

I say make the bitch sit on the bench, frowny face for all to see. This guy can kick rocks for all I care, I did respect Favre until this debacle, this coming from a Chicago Bears fan. The Pack will probably trade or do something with him but I think it would be funny if they just benched his old ass the entire season. Ass is only thinking of himself, he thinks he can help his team by coming back, but he made the decision not to when his last season ended. The Pack want to move forward without him, and he does this, I'll pay $1000 to the defensive end that takes his knees out.
