I'm Jay, probably better known as Z3R0GRAVITY1902, generally find me kicking ass (or getting my ass kicked) in Halo, now that Halo 4 is out, you will more than likely find me in there. When i'm not clutching my controller I can be found on many gaming forums and a few gaming magazine sites expressing my opinions on the latest in video games.
Now some of you may of herd that this little low budget game called Halo 4 has finally been released (if you haven't there's probably a small article somewhere over the internet that explains about it, there were also a a few games in the Halo franchise prior to Halo 4, some where really good and some not so much).
Like a lot of people if you didn't go to the midnight launch you may have pre-ordered your copy online and have it sent to you (like myself) on the day of release. If you were lucky enough to pull a sick day from work or skipped school that day to play it I envy you. Unfortunately my Boss knew the game was being released as he was also waiting for his copy of the game to arrive. For those who couldn't get the time off you spent either the day at work/school waiting impatiently until the day ends so you can rush home and play it.
Taking no chances I had my game made out to be delivered to my place of work, that way I knew someone would be in to sign for it. A little after eleven o'clock I see the Mail man arrive, I rush to greet him at the door, we exchange some general chit chat, I sign for a bunch of parcels then he leaves to get on with the rest of his rounds. As soon as he left I threw down the parcels on the nearest table and proceeded to hunt for mine. As I was going through the parcels I noticed one made out to my boss, I could tell instantly what it was, which also meant that mine was there, as we both purchased the game from the same place. As I came to the end of the pile of parcels mine was nowhere to be found, I quickly scanned through them again to make sure I didn't miss it but it wasn't there. I was crushed, to add salt to the wound my Boss (who is also a good friend of mine) thought it would be funny to open up the game in front of me just to rub my nose in it saying things like "guess I know what I'm doing tonight". Suffice to say I was in a pretty pissed off mood for the rest of the day. The following day arrived and the mail man came and still no game, A small dark cloud had started to form above my head I was quite angry by now. I gave myself one more day then if it didn't arrive I was going to contact the company where I purchased the game and give them a piece of my mind.
Thursday came and by this time I just assumed it wasn't going to arrive, like clockwork the mail man (altho a different mail man) arrived I signed for some parcels and low and behold, no parcel for me. That was the final straw, I picked up the phone and contacted the customer service department
After a twenty minute conversation of me venting out my anger onto someone who works there and getting nowhere, explaining to her that I pre ordered my game weeks before it was released and that when I ordered it I paid extra to have it sent to me on the day of release. She told me she was sorry for the inconvenience but I would have to wait a little over a week before she could do anything about it as it may just be delayed at the postal office. In my mind that wasn't good enough but I accepted it, what else could I say, it wasn't her fault, it wasn't like she packaged it up and sent it to me herself and lost it on the way. After I calmed down I apologised to the poor woman for wasting her time, and for me acting like a small child who has just thrown his rattle out of the pram, and that it wasn't her fault (I had to blame someone, right?) I hung up the phone and continued on with my day in a slightly more depressed state than i was already in.
Well a few more days had passed and I was getting somewhat frustrated everyone I knew had the game , by now most of them had completed the campaign and were now enjoying the multiplayer games, they were also enjoying the fact and laughing at my expense that they have it and I was still waiting (what are friends for?). By now I convinced myself that the mail man had stole it and was taking a week off playing my game.
A little more than a week my parcel had finally arrived, not by the mail man but a neighbour who lives a few houses up the road, apparently it was delivered to him a little over a week ago (Tuesday 6th to be exact) but he forgot that he had it until the moment before he came and handed it over to me.
As soon as my hands touched the recycled cardboard envelope I was filled with mixed emotions, The heavens had opened, birds were singing, I had the excitement like a child on Christmas morning, I finally owned my copy of Halo 4, At the same time I also had feelings of guilt and hatred I felt guilty towards the woman I exchanged words with at customer services, but hatred towards the mail man for delivering my parcel to the wrong address and to the man who returned it to me a week later because he forgot he had it. I wanted to set fire to a paper bag filled with dog shit and leave it outside his front door (that will teach him to forget) fortunately I didnít do it my boss wouldnít let me do it and it would also mean that iíd have to go round picking up dog shit.
Now I had it I just wanted to play it, only one small problem having my parcels sent to my place of work and that when I received it it was only the middle of the day, I still had to kill a few hours before I could leave to go home and play it. I did try to convince my boss that i was coming down with the bubonic plague and that me being here was a health risk to the rest of the staff. As you can guess he didnít believe me, heís also one of my mates who was enjoying the fact that my game hadnít arrived and he already had his copy. I will seek my revenge online in a slayer match then we shall see whoís laughing.
Iíve been playing the game for a couple of days now, Iíve mainly been playing online but dipping in and out of the campaign mode and so far I'm impressed. multiplayer is a blast altho not without a few minor disappointments, for instance I find a few glitches when i'm playing in slayer mode, every now and then on more than a few occasions I find that half way through a game it crashes and sometimes just automatically restarts the game from the beginning losing all my kill streak data, so far I have only noticed it once in 'capture the flag' and everything seems to be working properly for now in the other modes.
What I have played through of the main story itís continued to keep me interested, This is the first game in the Halo franchise that 343 industries have done taking over from Bungie, and doing so it's caused some controversy with the Halo fans. Some are saying its the best Halo game in the franchise and that 343 Industries have done an amazing job, where as others are saying that 343 should of never taken over, either way 343 decided to focus the game on Cortana the artificial intelligence that has assisted you throughout the Halo games involving you as Master Chief, making her story the focal point of the game. Being Artificial Intelligence her life span is almost up, they are only suppose to be active for seven years she's been active for eight and now needs the Chief's help to save her.
The graphics are beautiful and the audio is flawless from the little sounds to weapon reload to the big explosions it is amazing. 343 have had some big shoes to fill and from what I have played so far they have filled those shoes nicely. I felt that Bungie were starting to lose there way when they released Halo 3 and for the games to continue it needed to bring in a different company to give a different prospective.
To this day Halo 2 is still my favourite game in the series, with people complaining about the graphical problems on the console version. I still play that game today and just like the first time I played it it still holds up graphical problems or not. Halo 2 is an amazing shooter with a great story but Halo 4 is becoming a very close second.
