As some of you may know, recently my son's Xbox 360 received RROD # 5. I wrote a scathing blog of what I thought of Microsoft's console
here. While my initial opinion hasn't changed regarding the quality of said console I must say in all fairness their Customer Service has been something else altogether. Let's recap real quick the series of events in chronological order shall we?
On 5.22.08 I was packed for my vacation, ready to go without any games for the duration of my vacation, when this happened to my son:
I immediately called customer service pissed at the world at large. After going through the song and dance with their automated service for what seemed like forever but was really about 10 min of repeating my same information, I finally got a REAL person to talk to, went through everything again and was told my affectionately called
coffin was heading my way shortly.
Well through narrative writing we will go forth into the future by a week. I, unfortunately, had to cut my vacation short due to a minor crisis on one of my wife's friend behalf. As we get in, I notice the box, wrap that 360 and off to UPS it goes. That happened on the 28th mind you. So I'm just finishing my lawn outside and lo and behold I spot the UPS man show up today. What does he have for me? Maybe the Tshirt Ron owes me? Nope not that..
Damn you Workman..grumble grumble. Maybe Takeshi's package? Nope not that either..grumble grumble. This.
I remember you..
I don't trust this.. probably still broken.
NEWSFLASH: Microsoft knows Spanish!!
And of course the one month free of Xbox LIVE. Who wants it?
So plugged it in and the system is fit as a fiddle. Also, that 360 made more noise then Optimus Prime transforming and it is considerably quieter now. O.0 !!
I gotta give credit where credit is due, that being The XBOX Customer Service Team. A
WEEK and presto!, back in my possession. Exemplary customer service. And this from a labeled Sony fanboy.lol.
I should be getting my coffin tomorrow. At least I'll have MGS 4 to tide me over until I get back my Rock Band machine.
My original was manufactured in March 2006, but when it broke in May 2007, they sent me a refurb from OCTOBER 10TH 2005.
That shit was an original launch unit. This time, when it broke in May of 2008, they sent the same system back for once.
Total BS, IMO. I still haven't bothered to go through customer support over my DRM issues and not being able to play my old games I downloaded. Everytime I pick up the phone, it ends up taking literally over 25 minutes just to get to billing. I usually have to hang up.
You've been warned. LOL!
*Seriously*
Like yourself, a big part of me was hoping when i got it back that it would not sound like a jet engine. But ah well.
Four red lights? That's like 33% worse than the standard 3.
Also, City of God is an EXCELLENT film and can be found pretty easily at many stores like Best Buy and Circuit City for $10 or so. Highly recommended, indeed.
I almost wish it would so I could get one of those w/ the new quiet BeNQ drives.
As soon as the Jasper (65nm CPU & GPU) comes out this summer, I'm going to be getting an elite & passing my 360 on to a friend. Watch it like break the day after he gets it, lol.
Ah! Sorry, I was having this terrible nightmare wherein I became a complete retard...
Anyways it's great that MS has such good customer service, although that may partially be because they've had to deal with so many defective units :P
Regardless, glad to hear that there was a happy ending, let's hope that 6th times the charm :D
Also, don't jynx people like that, linuxguy, you jerk...
:(
LOL @ Ghost.
We wont discuss the horror stories of the past. Needless to say their customer service has improved exponentionaly.
Beads?!
Oh, and I wouldn't mind a one month subscription to XBL. ^_^
I think the newer systems are breaking down SLOWER (lol) so Microsoft have more time to fix the systems that are broken and get them out.
