Exactly thirty days ago I posted a blog titled
Crappy Games I would totally buy... if they were in the Bargain Bin, and wouldn't you know that as soon as I sent that out to your hungry cheap eyes, some of those games either were just dropped to twenty bucks or did so shortly thereafter.
Being the generous fellow that I am, I am here once again not wishfully thinking they would be in the bargain bin to buy, but to inform you that these games are indeed at a very appealing price point, that being the magical twenty bucks or lower prerequisite, and that yes, they should be elevated to the SHOULD BUY level.
Viking Battle For Asgard.
A Viking decapitaing and chopping the limbs of fools with extreme prejudice? I bought it and it's nice. Very nice. Do likewise at twenty bones.
Condemned 2.
Nintendoll told me this game sucked. Boy I'm glad I didn't listen to her! Twenty bucks was exchanged today as a matter of fact and I love it. No brainer for the cheaper price.
Shadowrun.
Laugh at me all you want but I paid FULL price for this game when it came out and guess what? It was worth every penny. Thing is not everybody will blow sixty bucks on a multiplayer online only game. No matter how fucking awesome it is. Why on God's green earth this game isn't played every Friday Night Fight for the 360 crowd is beyond me. At twenty bucks all you Xbox owners should scoop this up and rock it.
Earth Defense Force 2017.
You remember as a kid watching those old movies of giants creatures invading the earth, like aliens, giant robots, spiders... dude this game has that and then some. Fruity, crazy relentless action. Kids like action and so will you. Pick it up and turn your brain off. You'll thank me later.
Dark Sector.
A Gears of War like game that has gore and limbs flying as well as a rather unique weapon that you'll fantasize having? Yes, please. The glaive is the nastiest weapon unleashed in this generation of games. Bold but true. You'll have so much fun tossing this bitch around, chopping legs off scrubs, getting up close and personal ripping people's innards to the ground you'll be grinning ear to ear like a loon. There are quite a few
Oh Shit! moments in this game and at the end of the day, that's all you ask for in a good game. Highly underrated. Twenty bucks demands this game be in your collection.
Stuntman: Ignition.
I generally hate racing games or vehicle games in general unless they have an ice cream truck that transforms into a death dealing psychopathic clown robot but Stuntman: Ignition is just pure win. Take the wheel and steal the scene as you master the greatest stunt sequences ever filmed in the world's most dangerous, demanding, and exciting job. Ever seen the show The Fall Guy? That's basically what this game is, your a stuntman working for better jobs and more spectacular stunts to do. So fucking awesome. Not only that but the unique multiplayer must be tried. Twenty bucks should have you slipping on your driving gloves and burning rubber.
CRACKDOWN.
This is one of the
BEST games on the 360 hands down. Anybody who tells me different just doesn't know a good time if they were slapped in the face with it.When this game came out I bought it for the reason everybody else did, for the Halo 3 Beta. Funny thing is when I played Crackdown I completely forgot all about Halo 3. This game had me in it's clutches for months. And still I occasionally rock it out from scratch just for the pure mayhem of it. Also Orbs!! If you don't have this game in your collection and you're an Xbox 360 owner, you're a stupidface. Buy this shit now if you don't have it yet. It's cheap. You bastard.
Other quick games that I'll just briefly mention as I could keep going and going are:
Naruto: Rise of a Ninja : A good Naruto game ( crazy I know ) for the 360 that you should try regardless if you're a fan or not.
Overlord: For once you play an evil protagonist with hilarious results. With a Pikmin like control scheme and toungue firmly in cheek storyline, it's an easy and very fun romp. The PS3 just recently got this with more stuff so this is strictly for the 360 crowd at the cheaper price.
Amped 3 : The best snowboarding game in a while. HIGHLY UNDERRATED and just crazy awesome. If you haven't played this snowboarding game you're missing out. I would pay twenty bucks just for the retarded cool ass fucking cinematics in the game. But there is so much more to the game. Try it, hell just get that shit.
Who knew that being patient and frugal could net you great deals?
Oh wait, I did!
I'm buying Hitman: Blood Money next time I see it for the 15-20$ range.
Look, I meant compared to the first Condemned game. I dunno, I'm just not really into a game where you beat up hobos or vibrating hubcaps 90% of the time.
Oh also any Dtoiders who want to add me and play some Crackdown, any time.
Nintendoll:
Beating up hobos is cool.
I was just picking at you... you know you my homie. :D
Earth Defense Force is man-tastic.
EDF is going to the top of my gamefly queue! It reminds me of R.A.D from the screen shots
Crackdown is one of the top 3 360 games ever. (In my opinion.)
I need to pick up about half of these.
Shadowrun is awesome and doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Teleporting through an enemy to turn around and gust them with wind off of a ledge to their death before they can realize where I teleported to?
That's really awesome.
Stuntman:IG and DS, too. Really good list. I think Earth Defense Force is overhyped, though. It's a big hit with gamers online who claim it's so much fun but I found it to be boring and ordinary.
Crackdown is the bomb, I've traded in most of my 360 games that I got around that time but Crackdown is still there. Top game. I'd be up for playing Viking if I found it for a cheap price.
Stuntman, Condemned 2, and Viking are all grossly underrated. Especially Condemned, I can't believe all the hate for that game. I mean sans the second part of the lodge level, I think it compares favorably to the first. But the story is cringe-worthy.
@Yojimbo
Awww okay :) I am seriously the most naive, gullible person alive so...I miss jokes sometimes >.<
@JonnyBryce
It's really the best when you play co-op. Especially after you've had a few drinks.
I've wanted to rent Viking since it came out, but never got around to it. But now for the price of two rentals (renting games has gotten fucking expensive) maybe I'll just buy it...
I'd say if you're gonna get Shadowrun, get the SNES or Genesis version : )
I agree on Shadowrun, it was worth it the day it came out. I of course sold it, only because the company went kaputz.
Y0j1mb0 where are we Aussies supposed to find these games for $20? Last time I checked Crackdown was $100, then again that was in the local video ezy.
I got Crackdown a while ago (had to import from UK because it's not sold in Germany, but it was only 15 quid) because I couldn't wait for GTA4 and would've rather shot myself than firing up GTA:SA again. It's a good game, but definitely nothing memorable for me. Overlord was my second 360 game, and I still haven't played further than the first boss. The terrible controls and camera kind of stopped me from enjoying the game. EDF looks so tempting, because I love off-line coop and over-the-top fun shooters (reminds me of Serious Sam), but I can't find it at a reasonable price. The rest of the list is pretty 'meh' to me, which isn't to say they're bad games, they just don't interest me much.
My most recent bargain purchases were Mass Effect (for 20 Euro) and Assassin's Creed (25 Euro), two games that I had been interested in from the start - just not enough to warrant a 60 Euro price tag. Turns out I really enjoyed Mass Effect, and I'm having a great time so far with AC.
My best bargain find, however, was getting the bundle version of Viva Pinata and Forza 2, brand new, for around 10 Euro from Amazon Marketplace. VP is, I think, only good for a single play through (if you're thorough/OCD and get everything with the first garden, like I did), but Forza 2 had me hooked for months.
(long comment is long...sorry)
Yojimbo, I'm wondering what your ratio of $60 to $20 games purchased a year is. From reading your blogs I keep getting the feeling you mainly buy $20 games and only every once in a while pony up the $60 for a real gem of a game. Am I correct?
Where are you finding all these games for so cheap? I'd totally buy Viking, Condemned 2 (loved the first), and Dark Sector if I found somewhere selling 'em for that cheap. As it stands they are all on my GameFly queue instead.
Tell me your secrets!
No doubt about it, Crackdown is the undisputed king of cheap games. Lots of mindless fun.
Sadly I have no 360, but I might check out Shadowrun. I really wish that they had released Crackdown for PC.
Definitely picking up Overlord and Crackdown.
Jimbo, Crackdown was the first game I bought with my 360, and I actually did not buy it for the Halo 3 beta. It's not perfect, but it is incredibly fun, and now that it's down to $20, there's no excuse for 360 owners not to have it.
@Nihon plus these guys were serious with downloadable content!
I enjoyed this read alot. I'm always on the look out to increase my library of games I'm never going to get to! Oh well, at least they were cheaper :) good job meng!
I would get Crackdown except that I don't have internet capable of supporting an online game, so it's out.
EDF2017 is amazing fun and I second it whole-heartedly.
And where the hell did you find Dark Sector for $20? It's still close to $30 around where I live.
Also Viva PiƱata, I know it's old and the sequel is out but anyone who hasn't played it should die. P:
SilverDragon:
If only that were true ...lol. The ratio is like 70% full price while 30% at a cheaper alternative.
B-Radicate:
Step into any Gamestop or any other video game specialty stores and you'll find them this price or lower.
Oooo, I may pick some of these up...no, wait, I still have next months games to pay for.
EDF is actually my favorite Xbox 360 game of all time. I'm not even kidding :)
i just bought Condemned 2 a few days ago for the ps3,and i love this game! this game genuinely freaked me out a couple of times.
Did anyone else think of F.E.A.R when playing the SCU level? especailly in fps mode.
also, used, somewhat old PS3 games are like $35 in the gamestop/eb games here.
uh...EDF is like 14 now....power to us.
EDF's much harder than Dynasty Warriors though. At least in Dynasty Warriors, you're always a threat against the enemies (save...chaos and DW3 Lu Bu.) EDF kicks your ass and rapes you all ways single player.
I have EDF and I have yet to put it in my 360.
I did however pick up Dark Sector for the PS3. So far it's pretty damn fun! Stuntman is the next cheap game I want to pick up.
It warms my heart to know that I'm not the only bargain bin diver on here.
Unless it's simply amazing I never buy brand new games.
fukken signed. Great list Yojimbo
The only game on this list that I would even consider is Dark Sector.
I'm not one for buying shitty games, even if they are cheap as fuck. Spending $20 on a shit game is still a waste of $20.
Also, Haze.
this blog wins on so many levels
I too bought Shadowrun day one. Well worth it. but as my friends stopped playing online, I sold it(and still got like $15 in trade for it. I plan on picking it up sometime soon. I love that game and have really been wanting to play it again. Is the community strong for it still?
Crackdown is hands down fun. I rented it day one for the Halo Beta, played the game, took it back that day and went to buy it. Rocket Tag. That's all I have to say.
And Dark Sector is actually a game I think is worth a $30-40 price tag. So pumped it dropped to $15(at least at Game Crazy, where I get a 20% discout. Sweet action)
Great great blog.
I've been keeping an eye out for Earth Defense Force 2017 for a while now, I'm going to have to eventually order it online I think. And Niero doesn't lie, it seems like he's playing that every time I see him online.
Random, I'll totally take you up on the Crackdown offer. I have yet to finish it due to having too many other games, but I'd love to play some co-op sometime.
Also-bargin hunters should love this.
The Best Buy near me has brand new copies of Stranglehold for $9.99. I wasn't crazy about the demo when it came out, but my friend plays it online, and I've watched him. For $10, I'll slide through some watermelons and precision shot some dudes in the crotch.
Looks like I'm a stupid face, I don't have Crackdown. I am planning on picking up Condemned2 very soon.
Very nice list. I can attest to owning most of these, and some were bought at full price. They were worth it at that price, so they are damn sure worth it at $20.
Conan, and Assassin's Creed are both good bargins, though Assassin's Creed is more like 25.
I'll be picking some of those up :)
That was a great analysis of these games; short, concise, and convincing. I've already picked up the majority of these under $20, but I have connections.
Otherwise, I find it amazing how quickly xbox games go down in price - perhaps some silly people buy them full price, then trade them in because full price is so ridiculously high. I reap the benefits on a regular basis, and can therefore game AND make my rent and maybe eat on occasion ;)
Too bad that doesn't make more time to write about my cheap finds.
i didn't notice dark sector was $20 now; but thats a game i've been waiting to try.
Stuntman, i tried the demo and didn't like. :\ Just seemed too shallow.
CRACKDOWN = pure unadulterated awesome
Viking i saw on clearance for $10 but i passed on since i didnt know if it would just be a wast of money.
Shadowrun i've always been mildly interested in. I might try it now.
Condemed 2 i've never really paid any attention to. The only survival horror games i've ever really played were Resident EVil (i dont consider Dead Rising a horror game). Left 4 Dead is at the top of my MUST GET list though.
Naruto: Rise of a Ninja, never been much into anime type games but it did have some pretty graphics from the vids i saw. If it has some continuing storyline with the sequel this year I might try it, just so i can pick up the squeal next year for $20 & know the whole story.
I bought Overlord for PC when it was released. TONS of fun. Cant recommend it enough.
Amped 3, I still have SSX which i'm guessing is the same thing. :P
ok just recently got an 360 so...I picked up Crackdown on ebay for $4.99!!!!
Viking did slip up on my radar but I never picked it up, if I find it on the cheap I'll give it a shot.
Stuntman Ignition FTW!!!!!!!!!!
Heh, my older brother recently bought an Xbox 360 from a friend, who threw a copy of Crackdown into the deal for free. My brother calls me up and says "Hey, what's this 'Crackdown' game about? I've never heard of it before..."
So jealous. :(
good to see Viking, Naruto, and Overlord getting some love. all excellent games at the current price (hell, they were good when they were $40 - probably not $60 thou)
yeah, overlord is definitely fun. the controls and camera angles can be frustrating at times, though. But for 20 bucks, you can deal with it.
I need to pick up Condemned 1 and 2. Crackdown is somewhere in the house. I have no idea where though. :/
