" I'm Superman! King fucking Kong! I can pick you up and throw you a million miles. I'm number one. Number fucking one." Another day, another video game affiliated douchebag trashing the Wii. Dishing out the usual tired cliches that most people throw out to put Nintendo's system down. "It's for old people and little kids!", "The graphics sukz!", "The controls are shit!". Gamers have been slinging that retarded slop around for awhile... I just didn't expect people in the industry to publicly echo the same ignorant drivel. Mr.Wanat, who if you read Colette's piece on the front page, is working on Wanted: Weapons of Fate. A game who's demo ironically left me feeling with the same sentiments of how the graphics suck and the controls are shit. Weird how that works. The most disheartening quote uttered by him though was how he compares the Wii to the "f*cking Sega Genesis" Not because of the actual quote mind you but because most Dtoiders thought it was an insult to the Genesis. An insult to the Genesis? Thinking that's an insult to the Genesis is an insult to the Wii. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the Wii blowing away the competition? Isn't it a huge runaway success for Nintendo? Yet here comes Peter, Paul and Mary telling us how the Wii sucks. The Wii sucks? No YOU suck. Let's run down a few things about the Wii to refresh gamers memory of it. The Wii has the most exclusives of all the consoles...combined. The Wii's Virtual Console is a godsend for retro and regular gamers alike. The Wii unlike the PS3 and 360 has always had 100% compatibility with its prior console, the Gamecube, which was a kick ass system in its own right with more than few games that were just plain awesome. It's funny how people cry out "The PS3 doesn't have backward compatibility" or "I can't play my Xbox game on the 360" and Nintendo's Wii had that from day one. The Wii was made as a game console. Not a multi-media set up, no DVDs or Blu-ray can be played on them. You know what can? Games. Go watch your Next Flicks movies on your 360. I like using my console to actually play games. The Wii is the cheapest of all the consoles. In an age where our economy is flip flopping all over the place that is more than appealing. Let's not forget that their games are cheaper as well. The whining of Nintendo leaving their hardcore fans in the dust is just bullshit. Their 1st party output is like a machine compared to their competition. This misconception that the Wii is garbage is a crock. What is amusing to me is how people always throw the line third party games don't flourish on the system. That's not the Wii's fault. That's your fault. The people who own Wiis and complain yet don't buy the fantastic games like Zack & Wiki. They complain but when a solid third party game enters the horizon they don't buy it. Too busy playing the latest derivative shooter on their other consoles. OMG old people and and kids like the system!! It's pushing the casual game agenda into the forefront and assaulting my hardcore video gaming tendencies! Grow up. Your "hardcore games" aren't going anywhere. And as for these kids and old people gravitating to the system? Good. The more that people get into gaming, the better. If third party developers just make cheap waggle games for the masses and they eat it up, that's also not the Wii's fault. That's a sound business strategy by them. But for these others complaining about the Wii's deficiencies as a deterrent for creating great quality games on it sounds just plain retarded. Fanboyish almost. Get off your asses and cater to a systems strengths instead of whining and complaining about why it's not like the others. Before I wrap up let me revisit that one comment that spurred this rant from me: compares the Wii to the "f*cking Sega Genesis" (which is an insult to the Genesis if you ask me). I love you Collette but this once I have to disagree with you. Comparing the Wii to the Genesis by that dolt shouldn't be taken as an insult to the Genesis. It should be taken as a compliment. When the others dethrone the Wii as number one then we'll talk of it as an insult. The Wii sucks? No nonbelievers... YOU suck.

...... YOU suck.
:(
ZING!!
And yeah, I fucking love my Wii. I'd been having doubts but MadWorld got me playing it again, not just MadWorld, but my old WiiWare games and disc games as well. How many of us remember how much fun WarioWare is? When was the last time we replayed Lost Winds? Christ, how long's it been since Mario Galaxy got some playtime?
Zak and wiki and No more heroes were about the last two to do so.
Seriously, the Wanted game is just piss poor, I played the demo for 10 mintues, then turned it off, then deleted it, in complete disgust. You do the same thing over, and over and over again in the demo, and I don't see how that will change in the final game.
It's the epitome of what a bad game is, and the funny thing is that the graphics do look like they belong on the wii. ;)
About the wii, I don't see myself ever buying one, but that doesn't give me the right to bash it, I just saddens me to see it being flooded with shovelware.
1) Popularity does not necessarily mean how amazing an item is.
2) Compare to the vast amount of games (that are worth playing) in a PS2 library to a medicore selection of Gamecube games. The bc is almost unwarranted for in the Wii.
4) The 360 is cheapest console of the current gen.
5) Games are for all ages so dont even listen to that fool
6) I tend to agree with you most of the time, but I do not this time.
7) I am trying to ease my guilt on selling my Wii even though there are many games I want to play, (Madworld..)
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime 3
Resident Evil 4
Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Zack and Wiki
Boom Blox
Super Paper Mario
No More Heroes
Okami
That's quite an impressive list if you ask me, and 5 of those are 1st party Nintendo games.
The Wii is smelly crock and doesn't have the horsepower to run Final Fantasy VII or Halo, let alone a GOOD game.
Amen. ;O)

Lets list the Wii Games that rock shall we ...
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime 3
Resident Evil 4
Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Zack and Wiki
Boom Blox
Super Paper Mario
No More Heroes
Okami
That's quite an impressive list if you ask me, and 5 of those are 1st party Nintendo games. "
I am not going to say this is a bad list but lets put the info out there
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess(Gamecube 1st)
Mario Galaxy (1st party)
Metroid Prime 3 (1st party)
Resident Evil 4(Gamecube/Playstaion 2 1st)
Super Smash Brothers Brawl (1st party)
Zack and Wiki (why did this game fail? O ya people are dumb.)
Boom Blox(Steven Spielberg.....fucking the Steven Spielberg)
Super Paper Mario (1st party)
No More Heroes (great idea love the game had no polish)
Okami (Playstaion 2 1st)
House of the Dead Overkill
World of Goo
Lost Winds
Deadly Creatures
Madworld
de Blob
Batallion Wars 2
Mega Man 9 (Cross platform, yes, but is it not awesome?)
Not that a list of games has ever proven a point in a Wii discussion... but there are solid entries and experiences to be had.
Super Metroid is still one of the greatest games ever.
If you can't make a good game for the Wii (or any system) blame yourself.
lol old man yojimbo
Really? It's cheaper than the $199 Xbox 360 Arcade? Other than that little "fact" I enjoyed your post.
Isn't it a double standard to be ripping on the next-gen systems for having DVD/BluRay players built into them (and saying the 360/PS3 isnt JUST a gaming system) but then praising the Wii for having 100% backwards compatibility (even if the GC was a Failcube) while the other systems dont have total compatibility? You're praising the Wii for being the only system to NOT have something that has been commonplace for 2 console generations now (DVD support), but ripping on the other systems for not having something that never really was commonplace outside of the PS2 (backwards compatibility). You say 'if you want DVDs and movies go use your DVD player or your 360', i could easily tell you that if you want to play a PS2 or GameCube game then go play your damn Gamecube.
Sure the Wii may have the most true-exclusive titles, but that's because the other systems probably wouldnt give a damn about having them. Plus you're also ignoring the fact that the Wii has shit for quality titles compared to the other systems. Fuck, if you want a very quick way to gadge this then go to Metacritic and find the percentage of games for the Wii that are scored at 75 or higher to the overall number of games listed for the Wii. Then do the same for the PS3 and 360, you'll find that the Wii is the weak link here. (Though commenter note: I'm using this as a very quick-to-perform gadge, I am not directly endorsing Metacritic).
I dont totally mind the Wii, I own one myself. However I only own a couple of games for it (Zelda, Smash Bros) and only have a few games that I'm interested in that I dont own (Madworld & No More Heroes). Quality exclusive titles are still few and far between for the Wii, you could argue that the 360 and PS3 put out more universally praised titles in a year then the Wii has in its current life time.
((Sorry, I know this comment makes me look like a dick and it's not truly intended to be that way. I've had a rough few days and im just a little bit more 'open' at the moment, plus I'm just getting really sick of all of these WII RULZORZ blogs that expose the same broken facts))
The PS2 had more good games than the GameCube. The GameCube had more great games than the PS2.
@SephirothX
Sure the Wii may have the most true-exclusive titles, but that's because the other systems probably wouldnt give a damn about having them.
Sony and Microsoft tried to cash-in by putting Raving Rabbids on their consoles, and Microsoft has been going quite casual lately. Sounds like they give a damn to me.
Yojimbo, I want to be your best friend in the world right now. This post is awesome.
I don't think you're being a dick and the feeling of you liking me is reciprocal but this isn't a Wii rules post. This is a Wii needs some well deserved respect for what it has accomplished and people just need to quit piling on it post.
In my opinion there are three camps of gamers. Those that get Nintendo games and those that don't. You either like the universal family orientated game philosophy of Nintendo and their brand of games, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin and many others or like more "adult" fare that can be found elsewhere.
The third is the type of gamer that just loves great games. Wherever they may be. I fall into the latter. And to be perfectly honest, I'm just getting back to playing my Wii. As I have neglected it. That may have to do with the lack of online play the Wii has.
But for people to just keep bashing and bashing the system because it's not like the others, it doesn't have as much games ( and lets be fair here: the PS3 and 360 have a large amount of fail games as well )is bordering on ridiculous.
As for the DVD/Blu-ray analogy I made, quite simply Nintendo chose to just make a game machine. Refreshing. You also just can't ignore the delicious irony of everyone ripping into the Wii and yet it's stomping its competition.
Is there alot of shovelware on the Wii? God yes. But it has some amazing games on it that you can't find anywhere else. I feel like gamers just don't bother to dig deeper and experience them for themselves.
As much as I love my collection of Gamecube games I have to disagree with your assessment of it having more "great" games than the PS2. The Jak and Daxter series, the Ratchet and Clank series, Persona, Digaea, Dark Cloud 1 and 2, Ar Tonelico, Final Fantasy X and XII, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Rouge Galaxy, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, Yakuza 1 and 2, Rayman 2: Revolution, Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 3, God of War, God of War II, SSX Tricky, SSX 3, Ar Tonelico 2, Digital Devil Saga, the Sly Cooper Series, Suikoden III, IV, and V, and finally the Monster Rancher series.
Whether or not you consider all of those to be "great" games doesn't change the fact that the Playstation 2 sold over 110 million consoles world wide, opening up a huge user base for third party developers. There's a reason that the Playstation 2 is my favorite console of all time.
Again though, I absolutely love my Gamecube and it provided me with plenty of amazing gaming experiences, as has my Wii.
You should go work for Fox News, because you know how to spin reality into some fairytale nonsense that boarderlines crazy.
But don't listen to people. If you like the Wii, that's that. I love the Wii, but alot of people hate it. Who cares?
Especially don't listen to that one guy. The demo of his game left me not caring, so we're probably not on the same wavelength as far as games.
Alot of Dtoiders think the Wii sucks out loud. They have their reasons, as they can clearly state. That's fine.
But I'm still going to play and enjoy my Wii because I don't give a FUCK about DVD-playing. Graphics aren't top of my priority list, either. and so-forth.
There are plenty of goood games for the Wii, but it's fucking subjective. Like all games.
In this instance you and I disagree. I felt that one comment in your post:
compares the Wii to the "f*cking Sega Genesis" (which is an insult to the Genesis if you ask me).
was a backhanded insult of sorts to the Wii and when on your comment thread it was picked up and run with...well it felt like a cheap shot.
But that doesn't mean you don't have the right to your opinion because you most certainly do or that you're still my homie. :)
You're one of my favorite editors on this site, solely for this article.
I don't think anyone is saying that you're distaste for the Wii is wrong. I dislike that the system isn't quite as powerful as the others on the market, and that third party developers are abusing it as a platform to cater to the ignorant masses.
I also know that you have had a love affair with Nintendo since early childhood, and that if Nintendo hadn't gone the way of the Wii they probably wouldn't be around as a hardware developer anymore. We just have to keep hoping that after the Wii they'll come out with another Super Nintendo, pulling the casual gamers into a more hardcore setting and appeasing the fans that have remained faithful to them fore so many years.
I rest my case
Ehrm, I forgot to link to the article I referenced.
It is here.
