Come Friday I will be taking a long needed vacation from work, the world at large, games and Destructoid. That will be exactly two weeks. Fourteen days without booting up my PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, PSP, DS Lite , Gameboy Micro and finally Destructoid. You see in a moment of weakness, I actually made a thoughtful gesture. I made an agreement with my wife of twelve years that I would not carry any game systems portable or otherwise, nor my laptop, and even my cell phone. What have I done??

Typically in most vacations or road trips with the Rodriguez clan I carry everything that I possibly can, from portable gaming systems to my laptop and on a few occasions my true consoles themselves. ( Always with the ready excuse of: It's for the kids when they are bored... uh huh. ) While the family is at the beach or some Pavilion you would catch me at the condo playing games, being online, preoccupied with my selfish habits. While they were getting sunburned I was chillin' with a cold beer in the confines of le shade. I rationalized it as if God wanted me to soak up the sun he wouldn't have given me an olive-skinned complexion already.

Now as the time is nigh..less than twenty four hours, like a drug addicted fiend, I'm jonesing already being without anything to vanquish any impeding boredom that may come my way on this family outing. This so called vacation is looking more like a trip into the bowels of hell. I'm seriously contemplating sneaking the Micro with me but now mywife is doing what all females that finally get their husbands to do something for them do.... she's being ultra nice! Telling me how proud she is of me letting go my gaming habit for her and the kids. Every chance she gets telling me how much fun as a family we're going to have.

All I can think of is not booting up my systems and/or electronic man toys, no PS3 Friday Night Fights for me, no PS3 Poker Nights , hell I play everyday with my fellow Dtoiders. I don't even need an official stinking day to do that. Fourteen days of not logging on Destructoid and reading the Cblogs. Fourteen days of not seeing my upcoming card Ghost was about to do. Two whole Fridays without getting ready for Friday with Topher. Or reading something that got Sterling's knickers in a bunch. Can I really do this?


Lord help me.. give me strength.


Note to self: drink gratuitous amounts of alcohol on my vacation.
