There's a Sony momentum starting if you haven't noticed people. And like all momentum it trickles at first, then more comes along and gets added, until you have a full fledge phenomena in your hands. I'm not saying Sony is in the phenomena stage but it's getting there. With analysts seeing PS3 will see 10% sales boost thanks to HD DVD's demise, and Sony's US shares rising up to 5 percent yesterday (closing up 3.4% at $46.30) following the news that Toshiba was ready to pull HD DVD's life support plug, You start seeing the beginnings of a momentum shift from Microsoft's Xbox360 to the sleeping giant that is Sony's PS3.
Is it time for Sony to celebrate? On top of all the recent and surpringly good news for Sony there's another milestone worth noting. The PS3 has reached 10 million units sold, four months sooner than Xbox360. Let me reiterate that again, the PS3 sold better in its first year compared to competition Xbox360. That stat is astounding considering that Sony didn't even have any software, aside from a few, that were of AAA caliber. They just started to bring out games that people need to have..i.e. Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted. With Home just around the corner, sooner than most think, if the grumblings from insiders are to be believed and In game XMB a given..Sony even made T-Shirts at the GDC with the slogan: "In Tshirt XMB", things are looking up. Sony, as it stands right now, are in the position they wanted to be in for awhile. The Driver's position. Let's hope they put the petal to the metal and start picking up more speed. With AAA software like Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo, Reistance 2, Killzone 2 and unique PSN offerings like Echochrome, they got all the gas they need. Let's just hope they don't have an accident due to the stupidity of the higher ups when they start feeling triumphant and forget the fans. For momentum while easy to achieve, is much easier to break.

Just in time for MGS4
Anyway, one of the reasons the PS3 is selling so well is of course Blu-Ray. Another reason is the copious amounts of games coming out this year. I guess you can say last year was 360's year, but with a few big name titles coming out PS3 is picking up steam.
Also, Home would be excellent if in-game XMB was out before then. It would be cool to virtually hangout with shipero and jimbo while they cuddle and talk about their hippie days right before I shoot them in the face in Warhawk.
You sure love your 360..GOW2 and Ninja Gaiden are indeed great exclusives but That's not going to take anything away from Sony this year. They got more bullets in the chamber my friend. Microsoft spent the majority of theirs last year.

And my main problem is the way they deal with people crashing. Which is nothing. You just bounce off like it's Need for Speed.
But Gears of War is nothing to just look at and say "aw, that's cute." It is a large property now. I believe it will outsell MGS.
Don't forget you still have Alan Wake and Fable 2 has yet to prove itself as a failure. The first one was an above average game, guys. It was over-hyped but really great.
I do believe Sony will outsell the 360 this year for a while, but I highly doubt it will surpass it. Not this year.
Resistance and MGS4, will likely sell extremely well Other games on that like LBP and Echochrome, may not sell very well. and as long as third-party publishers like EA and Activision, loving the Xbox's install base. Also, with companies like Valve still having trouble developing for the system, Sony still has a lot of work to do before they can catch up

The truth is, I highly doubt Microsoft will continue to produce the same shit hardware that they have since launch. It's not good for business when you're paying for all those broken X-Boxes.

You negate the fact that PS3's have Blu ray. It's a synergy that this year Sony will reap the benefits from. Games and HD movies. Unless the 360 puts out another sku with Blu Ray at a cheaper price point, I just don't see the 360 raining on their parade. Let's not forget the general conception ( wether right or wrong ) that 360's hardware is garbage and that just cemnets it.
You put too much stock into Gears..That will be out at the end of the year my friend.
BTW: Last I heard EA was talking up how the PS3 will surpass the 360.

Do you really believe HD movies will be big in 2008 though? My folks have HDTVs and they didn't know you had to buy all sorts of different hardware to use it. I had to tell my dad about HD television and show it to him myself.
The players are still too expensive and the movies are still too expensive. No normal person is going to spend $30 on a movie.No one except for the rich guys with 7.1s.

Vexed Alex is right. There are still many homes that do not have HD televisions, making Blu-Ray a non-factor for consumers.
You guys were sucking me into your console war arguments. In my opinion, I don't believe the PS3 will outsell the 360 this year. It will be a pretty good year, outselling the 360 in half or a majority of the year, but wont catch up or beat it.
Fact is, play your games that you like and bam. There. This isn't sports it doesn't matter who wins or who looses. There shouldn't need to be an argument over who has the better games because its all subjective. I myself think Metal Gear is boring. Stealth is fucking boring to me and I don't care about Solid Snake. I don't care to invest time into the game. That's me.
We can bicker over who will win but if you look at it from an outside perspective, it looks pretty retarded. So what I'm trying to say is, Y0j1mb0, stop making "ZOMG PS3 IS GON WIN TEH CONSOLE WARZ!" One post is OK, but Jahova (Ah, you thought I was going to say Jesus!).

I have a 5.1 too. So, yes.
That said, if I were Sony, I would try to take advantage of Microsoft's high product fail rates before Microsoft cures the problem. Even when a system RRODs, people still own a collection of 360 games; as much of a hassle as it is to replace the hardware multiple times, it's even worse to re-buy an entire game collection.
But if Sony were to partner with GameStop and offer a special additional promotion (perhaps a system % off) to people who trade in a large number of 360 games, maybe some people who are dissatisfied with Microsoft would be motivated to switch.
The 360 isn't reliable currently. The PS3 is very reliable.
Xbox Live is amazing, for the most part. PSN, not so much, but it's getting there.
360 has had the better exclusives, but PS3 is catching up a bit there also. (Gears of War 2 will probably outsell MGS4 in America)
PS3 does have Blu-Ray, and regardless of it's importance at this stage, it's nice to have and it makes you somewhat future-proofed. In general the PS3 is a far more capable machine than the 360. It's got more features and of course the standardized HDD will definitely make things better in the end.
I love my 360, but I'm starting to see the light. The PS3 is just as worthy of my time. I wouldn't put one above the other though. I love em both.

If that were the case Microsoft would have immeadiatly and completly replaced or fixed the issue causing the RROD. Its what 2 years now and its still around? Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

$50 for one year of overall better service (at least for me, never had a problem after Xmas) is like peanuts to any hardcore gamer. We'll live. lol..
But yeah, I wish it were free anyway. Also, I appreciate Sony's stance on user created content. I so wish the 360 was an open platform in that way.
I'm starting to love the PS3.
In my opinion, the PS3 lacks the games 360 has (for now). It's my opinion that the 360 is a better system (despite it's shitty hardware) right now, but that's me. That's what I believe and I kind don't care to post a blog about why I think it's better.
And the "ZOMG PS3 IS GON WIN TEH CONSOLE WARZ!" was an exaggeration to what you're trying to get across but common. How many pro-Sony posts do you have to post? We get it. You like the PS3 over the 360. That's fine.
I never once acted like a fanboy. At least I don't believe I had. I even said that I think the PS3 would do better than the 360 (but not catch up to it). You're just being over defensive.
