If you know me, chances are that you know I own all the consoles yet prefer the PS3 as my system of choice to spend my time in. I am of the mind that a quality console should be embraced. Sony recently seemed to be getting there act together. Exclusive games have been coming our way and have been quite good. The PSN network has been growing through Firmware in a fairly constant schedule, and ports of third party games are now to the point that drama doesn't follow their releases. With Little Big Planet around the corner to me it just doesn't get any better than that. What Sony doesn't need would be Oh, say a major Fuck up to offset the goodwill and trust they have been slowly building with their base as well as others looking from the outside. So imagine my surprise when I decided to get SOCOM:US Navy Seals: CONFRONTATION with the added benefit of their new HQ Bluetooth Headset which is very nice indeed, and something unexpected occurred. What was that you ask?? Well after installing 2 gigs worth of data and a 400 mb plus patch I was greeted with this little sentence. FAILED TO LOG IN TO SERVERS. Then it immediately took me straight to the start up menu because you see SOCOM doesn't have offline play at all, not even a LAN option. So I proceeded to repeat everything again and again, deleted the update as well as the patch and redownloaded it. Tried again. What did I get? FAILED TO LOG IN TO SERVERS. Then it immediately took me straight to the start up menu because, let me reiterate, SOCOM doesn't have offline play at all, not even a LAN option. Thinking logically I thought to myself: Well, self. Maybe it's my 60 gig PS3 that might be having an issue with it. So I looked at the Official SOCOM Forums to see if by chance this snafu was shared by others when I stumbled upon this. 
I know that most of you guys don't have bionic eyes so here's a link. Please, I urge you to have a look. For those that chose not to hit the link, which you should of to see the broader picture here, you'll come across such fantastic titles such as: Server Problems.[ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 » ] It wont let me get on the servers!! [ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 » ] cant get past "initializing network" anyone else? [ 1 2 ] LOL@SONY/SLANT6! NO ONE CAN LOG IN RIGHT NOW! STOP WITH THE THREADS ABOUT IT! and my favorite HOW ABOUT AN OFFICIAL **bleep** IS GOING ON THREAD FROM SONY OR /6????? So basically what I purchased today was the official HQ Bluetooth for ten dollars extra because the deal I thought I took advantage of, that being a 49.99 Headset with SOCOM for a mere ten dollars more is invalid because the game DOESN'T FUCKING WORK! What a major fucking screw up Sony. Nice job.

Yeah, just jumped over to the GameFAQs message board. Tis true, people are saying they're getting in.
This means Konami is still the reigning champ for crappy servers.
Obviously I know that many will want to add their own sprinkles of Sony hate and I thought it fitting that I open the dialogue for them to do so because this is one of those instances where it's merited.
Does that mean I hate Sony? Or the PS3? Or I think they just have only two games? Or "Ooooh the online play is free, what do you expect?" to come out of my mouth? No. I just highlighted a serious problem with a game released. One I would highlight in another system just as passionately if they did the same thing with a major release.
Will they fix it? They would be dumb not to. But you would be dumb if everything is A-OK with Socom. Far from it as it stands now.
Yesterday I couldn't log add funds to my PSN account to purchase Wipeout HD. Maybe there's where your issue lies?
That actually just reminded me to check if I can buy Wipeout HD.
Yeah, I agree it does suck. Oh well, as long as it was for just a bit and not ALL day. It happens.

This is nothing man, I mean nothing at all. The first week World of Warcraft came out the servers were down 50% of the time. That's pretty shitty when an MMORPG is down 3-4 days of the first 7 days it was out. Everytime a new patch is released for the game, whch happens about once every 3 months, the servers typically go down for another day or two because of problems.
Give it time and before you know it you'll be wiping the floor with all the noobs playing the game.

It's not that Socom will be broken forever. Just like Rainbow Six Vegas 2 was unplayable the first couple days (make that two weeks) but now it's running fine.

Took me a full day to get that stupid Konami ID. Took me another full day to download one single update. Once I finally got the game I found out two things. First it sucked, second they didn't let me play it with my buddies. The latter two aren't fixed and will not be fixed ever.
What if the game is up and running tomorrow and this game is the best online shooter ever?
Just count your blessings with the insane heap of games you still haven't beaten. Before you know it Socom has taken over your life.
No, but seriously, the Beta was not the best I played, and against the online multiplayer heavyweights, it did not look a worthy purchase, so I'll just wait for LBP.

I remember Warhawk kind of had the same issues in the very beginning as well. It wasn't AS serious, but there were definitely issues that shouldn't have existed with a online based multiplayer game.
This is why I don't expect the LBP servers to be 100% until at least a week after launch. Prepare NOW to not be able to get online with your friends and play or if you can it'll be real laggy. Then if you can whopee good times.
Sides, its free so stop whining and be patient then try again later, I'm sure there's something else you can play in the meantime instead of crying here.
This is not a new concept. Happens in the PC world all the time with MMOs, no matter how much you feel entitled shit just happens.
For the objective based matches though, I have noticed that nobody really bothers trying to accomplish it, and its more about just wiping out the entire team to win.
