It's 2008 and the future that we used to dream about, while not here in all its imagined glory, is certainly making huge strides towards it. Come next Presidential Inauguration we may just have the first Black President sworn in. I never would of dreamed something like that happening. Still don't. It's not that I'm a pessimistic chap, I'm a realist. Get people behind a curtain in the shadow of amenity and they'll probably be pulling that lever for McCain no matter what they say on the outside.

The flying cars I thought we might have had when I was younger are not to be . Just the same old cars, with spiffier ibuprofen shaped styles that have become the norm. All cars just about looking the same. I remember when you could tell what brand a car was way off in the distance, nowadays you practically have to have them next to you so you can read their brand on their grill to know which one it is.

Game Systems have just about turned into multimedia media boxes. Not only do they play games but music, movies, not to mention storage for your pictures and an Internet browser. How far have we come? Think about that. If your in your thirties, than you can empathize with the culture shock between this generation of consoles and your prior ones as a kid. Seriously did you think way back when, when you were playing Contra on your SNES that a future console could do all that it does now? Chances are the answer to that is a resounding no.

On my last post I argued the point that out of all the online services for each system, side by side, I felt the Wii's online strategy ultimately was the winner. I based this solely as a parent and took into account how it was the safest of the Major three, due to it's total lack of voice chat. It was more involved and if you care to read it, the link is above. Needless to say, it was quite a discussion with the community here.

What I'm focusing on here, is the transformation that normal everyday human beings, when entering an online game environment, turn into. We got a few different types of moronic entities that they devolve to: we have the singer, who basically takes the opportunity to sing or rap over the headset for no apparent reason than to annoy and shatter your ear drum. You then have the guy that must put his headset into a blender because there is so much noise commotion/static that you feel your fillings loosen in your teeth. Then finally you have the most pathetic of all, the one that wants to say the word nigger over and over and over like it's the only word their limited vocabulary knows. This is what I'll be focusing about here.

My initial reaction when I hear someone going on a racistfest is quit. I don't condone a few things if I can help it. One is stupidity, the kind where people do the same mistakes again and again, not learning the lesson. Two is lack of respect, there's never a time when you shouldn't treat people the way you want to be treated. Third is racism. And unfortunately even in this day in age, there is an abundance of it still. More so in online games because unlike in the real world where there may be consequences for such racists' remarks..i..e..getting your ass whipped or worse, there really isn't any real deterrents for these racist ogres.

As a matter of fact, I still don't understand why most people just don't quit right then and there like myself. I mean stay and I feel your at least condoning the behavior with non action and at worst contributing to it because you somehow find the words: Nigger, Spic, Faggot somehow hilarious. It's a curious thing to experience when it begins and you linger. Because several things end up happening, people either respond in kind because they are insulted, which merely excites said racist..Ahh..the nigger doesn't like the word nigger , they laugh which does the exact same thing, or they join in the lewdness.

Right about now you'll have people say I use those words and I'm not racist. Hell I'm Black or Puertorrican or whatever. It's just fun. Stop being a pussy. Well, let me just say my idea of fun is very plural and very lengthy but there is not one of those many things that I constitute as fun belittling people because of something that can't be helped. Their race. If that makes me a pussy than I'm the biggest one. You may think I'm being old and don't know what I'm talking about but that old adage of Sticks and stones may break my bones but words may never hurt me is bullshit. Words are power. Words start wars.


The next time you hear some dumb shmuck in Halo 3 start the nigger train, do yourself a favor and everybody else in the game a favor, quit. Reduce this ogre's audience. Others may follow suit. Imagine if everybody did that to them. The message would get through when said person finds himself alone with his ignorance.

You may think I'm being ridiculously sensitive here. You may think we were just joshing yo..my best friend is black or Hispanic. But if you participate by vocalizing it..even in jest, your still being racist. If I bake a cake, I'm baking. If I jump in my pool and swim, I'm swimming, If I call someone a nigger or spic, I'm a racist. You are what you do. You are also what you condone.
