An epiphany hit me today as I was surfing Destructoid. It was like a lighting bolt that struck me in the head with a crackling roar.
I'm not playing a video game right now. My wife isn't watching
Dancing with the Has Been Stars or BrOnXbOmBr21's favorite show
American Idol, so basically the den was mine. I could be right now playing Call of Duty 4 or maybe starting No More Heroes.
What the hell is wrong with me?
There was a time where, when I wasn't working and spending time with the little ones, all my time was spent playing video games. Lord knows I got stacks upon stacks of games that I need to either finish or start. As a matter of fact, my wife has even remarked how good I was doing at not letting the video games get the best of me. That has always been through twelve years of marriage the only reocurring argument starter. Twelve years will neuter and domesticate any man to a woman's will but video games have always been the last charge of my addictive personality. She never made a dent on my playing games.
Until now. Actually until November 18th of last year. Why that specific date? Because that's the day that I found Destructoid. The following day I posted my first blog and the rest is how they say, history. Funny thing that a site dedicated to gaming is in fact taking me away from gaming itself. If that's not the biggest oxymoron you've heard in a while I don't know what is.
Instead of playing games nonstop, I know peruse Destructoid like a crackhead on a binge. Now the only times I play games are on Friday nights (
gee I wonder why? ) and Wednesdays (
another stunner ). I play rarely inbetween as all of my free time is spent now online on my PC. Which I never bothered to look at outside of work before. Now I look forward to seeing what Jim has posted, or what PS3 news Gameboi might post and let's not forget the Cblogs where really, no disrespect to the fine Editors and writers of Destructoid, the real meat and potatoes is at.
To say the Cblogs are the most entertaining thing in the site is an understatement. This is where I find any scrap of info I need. As Dtoids in general are like hungry wolves, trying to get the news out before each other. This is where I find my LATENIGHT LULZ from electro lemon ( Good to see you back, man! Where the
fuck have you been? ), Ron or anybody else who decides to put something up. Where else am I going to see
Gaming Toys You Will Want, or
Japan: A Blog pt. 53 of 912. I've never even been to Japan but looking at DVD design's blog makes me think I have.
And don't get me started if someone fails in the Cblogs. Destructoid don't have very many shy critics. I liken it to The Gong Show. When you fail here, you will be told about it quicker than it took you to put up a blog that didn't even have a third sentence.
So what am I getting at ? Well, it seems that Destructoid has cured me of my video game addiction by giving my idle hands a rest and giving my mind plenty of food for thought. Imagine that, Destructoid,
The Hardcore gaming community has erased one of my all consuming obsessions in less than five months time. I wonder what else it can cure??
Grow some hair on your knuckles and buy COD4 for PC, dog.
Secondly, I wouldn't say Destructoid is all hardcore gamers. If I am thinking correctly, you need to have a large chunk of your gaming going to the PC. A good portion of destructoiders are console gamers. Because Hardcore porn is on the internet, and you need a PC to go on the internet, you are only a hardcore gamer when you use a PC to play games, and watch hardcore porn.
You're a pussy if you're no longer playing games frequently. Did I scare you off after beating your ass at UT 3 one too many times?
I smell a blog rape a'comin'.
Weird, huh?
burrrrnnnnnnnn
Dtoid: it learned me to write guder!
Fuck you Destructoid, you'll be the death of me yet.
This site is so totally worth it though.
Probably twelve or fifteen on Destructoid. Effed up, isn't it?
I've noticed the same with me, I play less to be more on dtoid as well :-)
Also, there's a dude on Destructoid called christiangamer or something. If that dude reads your profile he's going to freak! I'm just giving you a fair warning.
:D
Like when I was playing Resi Evil 4, I had no one to turn to and say "holy fucking shit! RE4 is the bomb!" I just sat in my room, grinning to myself. Dtoid has brought the ppl to me and me to the ppl :-)
Still, stfuajpg :p
And just like shipero said, I don't play much online anymore except on wednesdays and fridays. It's just a blast to play with cool, funny, people, without having to yell at them, to, say, oh I dunno...put up a goddamn dispenser when I tell them too!. I mean I never have to do that with you guys.
I've said it numerous times before, Destructoid is undoubtedly the greatest site on the internet.
Actually, you want to put up the dispenser first, that way it'll feed you metal as you upgrade your turret.
BELIEVE IT
It was alot fun playing with shipero though and having some casual banter that had little to do with video games whilst we shot each other in the faces. The community feeling rocks.
Other than that I drink, party, play video games, clean house, keep my girlfriend happy and buy stereo equipment.
Like what Liam from the future said, I have no need to hit up other gaming sites as Dtoid delivers on all fronts.
But you are right, this site keeps me away from gaming. I was playing Ratchet & Clank PS3 the last few days and boy I missed me some great stuff.
