DESTRUCTOID...it cures cancer too!!

An epiphany hit me today as I was surfing Destructoid. It was like a lighting bolt that struck me in the head with a crackling roar. I'm not playing a video game right now. My wife isn't watching Dancing with the Has Been Stars or BrOnXbOmBr21's favorite show American Idol, so basically the den was mine. I could be right now playing Call of Duty 4 or maybe starting No More Heroes. What the hell is wrong with me?

There was a time where, when I wasn't working and spending time with the little ones, all my time was spent playing video games. Lord knows I got stacks upon stacks of games that I need to either finish or start. As a matter of fact, my wife has even remarked how good I was doing at not letting the video games get the best of me. That has always been through twelve years of marriage the only reocurring argument starter. Twelve years will neuter and domesticate any man to a woman's will but video games have always been the last charge of my addictive personality. She never made a dent on my playing games.

Until now. Actually until November 18th of last year. Why that specific date? Because that's the day that I found Destructoid. The following day I posted my first blog and the rest is how they say, history. Funny thing that a site dedicated to gaming is in fact taking me away from gaming itself. If that's not the biggest oxymoron you've heard in a while I don't know what is.

Instead of playing games nonstop, I know peruse Destructoid like a crackhead on a binge. Now the only times I play games are on Friday nights ( gee I wonder why? ) and Wednesdays ( another stunner ). I play rarely inbetween as all of my free time is spent now online on my PC. Which I never bothered to look at outside of work before. Now I look forward to seeing what Jim has posted, or what PS3 news Gameboi might post and let's not forget the Cblogs where really, no disrespect to the fine Editors and writers of Destructoid, the real meat and potatoes is at.

To say the Cblogs are the most entertaining thing in the site is an understatement. This is where I find any scrap of info I need. As Dtoids in general are like hungry wolves, trying to get the news out before each other. This is where I find my LATENIGHT LULZ from electro lemon ( Good to see you back, man! Where the fuck have you been? ), Ron or anybody else who decides to put something up. Where else am I going to see Gaming Toys You Will Want, or Japan: A Blog pt. 53 of 912. I've never even been to Japan but looking at DVD design's blog makes me think I have.

And don't get me started if someone fails in the Cblogs. Destructoid don't have very many shy critics. I liken it to The Gong Show. When you fail here, you will be told about it quicker than it took you to put up a blog that didn't even have a third sentence.

So what am I getting at ? Well, it seems that Destructoid has cured me of my video game addiction by giving my idle hands a rest and giving my mind plenty of food for thought. Imagine that, Destructoid, The Hardcore gaming community has erased one of my all consuming obsessions in less than five months time. I wonder what else it can cure??

Is this post awesome? Vote it up!

Two things-

Grow some hair on your knuckles and buy COD4 for PC, dog.

Secondly, I wouldn't say Destructoid is all hardcore gamers. If I am thinking correctly, you need to have a large chunk of your gaming going to the PC. A good portion of destructoiders are console gamers. Because Hardcore porn is on the internet, and you need a PC to go on the internet, you are only a hardcore gamer when you use a PC to play games, and watch hardcore porn.

Don't forget about my typical douche bag comments.

You're a pussy if you're no longer playing games frequently. Did I scare you off after beating your ass at UT 3 one too many times?

The only delusion here is your win ratio.

Perhaps if you stop looking at your win ratio and look beyond that to the stats that are mine you'll notice an eerie resemblence. Your many many deaths and my kills match in perfect unison.

Weird, huh?

Preach on brother! I actually noticed the same thing. After joining the 'toid I've actually played games less. It's actually helped me to work on my writing too, which still isn't very good but at least it's something useful.

Dtoid: it learned me to write guder!

I noticed the same thing too, about a month after I joined it dawned on me that the school year's coming up and I've been reading Destructoid doing shit all otherwise. I took a week hiatus to play games but I came back like a junkie needing his fix.

Fuck you Destructoid, you'll be the death of me yet.

I have the same problem. Spending a few hours sifting through huge quantities of videogame tips really kills my urge to sit down and actually play anything. DESTRUCTOID IS WHY IT'S TAKEN ME SIX MONTHS TO BEAT THE SIX HOUR LONG HEAVENLY SWORD.

This site is so totally worth it though.

I know how you feel. The cblogs have kind of done the same to me. There used to me tons of stuff that I could talk about as far as games were concerned, but now that so many people are just talking about games on a daily basis, I can't seem to remember any or it. As far as cruising Destructoid goes, I do that and play games, so that leaves practically no time for everything else (like schoolwork). It's something that I now have to break myself of.

As much as I love Dtoid, I spend enough time in class and work reading it so once I'm within reach of a video game I'm usually playing it. That being said, Dtoid is the first thing I do in the morning and the last thing I do before bed.

Yep...same here, buddy. I’ve been reading the site for a long, long time — since August 2006 — but I didn’t start blogging until the end of last October, and now I pretty much spend all my time on the internet here, or checking my email...and then coming back here. It’s a compulsive addiction, really...I should probably get it checked out.

I've noticed this and do make an effort to PLAY games as much as possible. However I do tend to play on my PC a lot more, that way I'm never too far away from the internets...

I have noticed that the second I get home these days i go straight to destructoid and ctr+alt+del, I spend upwards of 8 hours a day online. Luckily I have a laptop and play games at the same time. I really like coming to destructoid it gives me something to do with me free time!

Nice post. Yeah I find myself gaming less because of dtoid but when I am gaming I finally have people I can relate to when I just want to talk how about freekin awesome the game is.

Like when I was playing Resi Evil 4, I had no one to turn to and say "holy fucking shit! RE4 is the bomb!" I just sat in my room, grinning to myself. Dtoid has brought the ppl to me and me to the ppl :-)

Still, stfuajpg :p

I still play games as often as I used to, but the one thing Destructoid has done is given me a nice group of people to play with online. Normally I shy away from online multi-player because of the amount of, as yahtze puts it, "hooting dickholes." The guys from TFT, WNW, and FNF are by far the most behaved, sanest people I have ever played with. Except MrSadistic but he keeps his hooting confined to the comments sections of other people's blogs. Which I admit is a great place to hoot.

I joined dtoid in the summer of '07, and now I don't go anywhere but dtoid, usually. I blame the great community, including the awesome editors that are a large part in that community. What other website will you have the creators of the site, talking, and actually playing games with their very members? And being totally casual about it?

And just like shipero said, I don't play much online anymore except on wednesdays and fridays. It's just a blast to play with cool, funny, people, without having to yell at them, to, say, oh I dunno...put up a goddamn dispenser when I tell them too!. I mean I never have to do that with you guys.

I've said it numerous times before, Destructoid is undoubtedly the greatest site on the internet.

Actually, you want to put up the dispenser first, that way it'll feed you metal as you upgrade your turret.

yeah, I actually really new to online gaming, DTOID got me into it. I'm also extremely new to VoIP. I experienced the "hooting" idiots for the first time the other day while playing a non community game.

It was alot fun playing with shipero though and having some casual banter that had little to do with video games whilst we shot each other in the faces. The community feeling rocks.

I'm on all day at work and I check it all the time at home for gaming news, updates and retarded posts. Destructoid broke my coke using habbits!

Other than that I drink, party, play video games, clean house, keep my girlfriend happy and buy stereo equipment.

Like what Liam from the future said, I have no need to hit up other gaming sites as Dtoid delivers on all fronts.

But you are right, this site keeps me away from gaming. I was playing Ratchet & Clank PS3 the last few days and boy I missed me some great stuff.
