It amazes me still when in the looming horizon, I see the birth of hate crying it's foul cry and ensnaring everyone within earshot of it's infectious shrill. What's even more fascinating to me, is how people pile on to hate something, another person takes the proverbial baton and sprints with it as well, ready to pass it to yet another eager participant trying to better the fellow before him. Sometimes affectionately called The Mob Mentality it ebbs and flows like waves of an angry sea crashing onto a serene beach before retreating back to itself.. usually leaving in it's wake nothing more than a few sea shells. A telling conclusion. Why are we as gamers so ready to damn to hell anything that remotely looks to be off. Are we really that full of spite that we are itching to spew hate on developers and publishers alike at a drop of a dime for some perceived Achilles heel in a particular part or mechanic of a game not even released yet? A game , as far as I know, no one here in Destructoid has played the full game? It boggles my mind when as a whole, we rally against censorship in games and the Jack Thompsons of the world when they attack on our games and we are even worse then them. It seems every chance we get we are trying to bite the hand that is feeding us. Impatient. Self-Indulgent. Greedy. Fat. Spoiled. With our fingers ready to point out a minuscule flaw to the whole world. Ready to send game makers to the dregs of Hell because something is delayed, or because it doesn't have 1080p, or 720p all the while those ready to drop negativity have the smallest "p". Since when has it been cool to shit on people anyway? You would think, in this instance, Free Radical, raped every one's mom in here the way people were going here. They just made a game folks. They didn't key your car, or have outlandish sex with your significant other. It's getting so you can't even read anything online either on a website or forum without the fucking bellyaching and complaining over silly shit pertaining to a game or it's creation. I can understand being worried about a game or it's development, I worry about Banjo myself, but I'm not going to bash Rare and their employees as garbage. Or that their last good games were when they were with Nintendo. Why? Because these people are trying to create something that we as gamers can play and enjoy. And whether it accomplishes that goal or not, I'm quite sure people are busting their ass, not seeing their family as much as they need to, so that their game could have a great shot at being something special. I tend to think that most dev houses are like this. Or are working towards this and for us who are supposed to love games to just simply write off a game because of a delay or two, really? a delay? That's Super rare in the game biz, or it's not true HD, really? That's super rare in the game biz *Halo 3, COD4,* or games not meeting expectations or hype, really? REAL super rare *Mariokart, Assasin's Creed, Mass Effect*. I just think it's easier to pick at somethings more than others. Lol. Seems that even though Sony didn't make Haze they get blamed for whatever may be wrong with it..in this case not being 720p. You guys do realize the machine they built does do that, right? If the devs choose not to do that for whatever reason, like say so their game engine they made runs efficiently throughout, it's not a hardware issue , right? I thought all of us were in accordance that gameplay is what matters first and foremost anyway ? Or is that just a crock of shit we say to each other to sound like we know what we are taking about? My favorite games as of this writing are as follows: Persona3, COD4, GTA IV, Odin Sphere, Dragon Quest VII, Hot Shots Golf, and The Club. All of these games aren't showered with true HD goodness and you know what..it doesn't matter. Is Haze going to be included in that list? I have no clue because guess what? I haven't played the full game. But I can honestly say I don't truly give a fuck if it's 1080p, 720p or whatever. And I have an HD TV. I'll just wait for the official Destructoid review, and probably try the finished product for myself. What I wont do is shit on the game and everyone who is involved with it because I somehow feel that my online anonymity gives me the right to do so. Or that because I owned every game console known to man I know better than everybody else. I hope Haze turns out good. I love supporting games that have coop online and that have four player split screen. I have faith in Free Radical so hopefully it will be a good romp. I don't expect Bioshock or COD4 but something else cool that I could play with my friends online. I can wait to pass judgement on it when it's out and complete. For all others who want to pass judgement on something without giving it it's proper do, I see the train in the looming horizon. It almost sounds like a shrill from a baby..

Anyway, I don't get butt-hurt about HD in games. I could care less about the graphics (with Wind Waker an exception), as long as the gameplay is pure awesome.
The single player aspect wasn't too great, it was the excellent multiplayer, especially in number 2, that set them apart. That being said Second Sight is a very good game.
seriously, is a few pixels going to be that noticeable?
You hear all the negative stuff about a game and before you even play it you have already made your mind up that is it going to suck because others have been suggesting that it sucks. I don't know how many times I hear such and such move/game blows chunks, then I play it/watch it and I love it.
oh and for them haters:
sorry for multi-posts
@Yojimbo: I feel like this sort of mentality has been prevalent in all things media-related for awhile now, not just recently hitting the videogame industry. I remember when I was twelve and I really wanted an SNES because of LTTP and FFIV and had to settle for the Genesis. I thought the Genesis was PRETTY FUCKING FUN (Golden Axe still entertains me to this day), but all the kids who had their SNES had to let me know that SNES was better than the Genesis JUST BECAUSE.
People rarely have good reasons for these things. It's usually just one guy with a bit of skill for seeming witty or presumptuous (or a bit of both) and a bunch of people looking at what this guy said and thinking, "Well hell, I wasn't sure how to feel about this, but having someone to base an opinion off of without thinking things over myself seems like a hell of a lot easier deal to me!" The Mob Mentality is just an easy way out. Kudos to you if you can avoid the pack.
Though I thought shootin comrads in the back of their neck for them to go crazy was cool, everything else just reminded me of Halo for PS3 + sweet nectar. As for the HD bit, I don't mind. But i'd expect in defense they'd say the gameplay would well make up for it. Though how it's going, it sounds like its setting itself up for epic phail.
Just to make that clear.
The game just looks mediocre at best.
That being said, after playing the demo, Haze seems like a pretty damn generic and lame FPS, and if I wanted to play one of those I'd get one for my 360. I got a PS3 so I could play the different stuff, dammit!
Also, I remember reading some of those exact quotes from your pic up top. lol.
It's not for any fanboy-ish reasons, either.
a.) It's another FPS in a market that's saturated,
b.) It's not fundamentally different than any other FPS,
and
c.) I'd rather have ELO do the theme than Korn. :D
I think the Japanese have a lot to do with this one.
c3real
As for the hate in on Haze, I think outright hate is rather extreme on the part of a few people, but it looks like this latest news is just another failing of what looks like an incredibly average FPS. The only things that stood out about this game for me were a) the claims of intelligent commentary and story (yet unproven) and b) the fact that I saw the same ad in EGM at least two months in a row, each one with a "coming soon!" release date one month later than the last month's release date.
As for hate in general: people overreact. Hating something makes you one of the cool kids, especially if you hate on something popular. It's been that way for ages.
I think that comment is an unnecessary, repetitive overreaction to unnecessary, repetitive overreaction of repetitive overreactions.
I think that comment is an unnecessary, repetitive spoof of an unnecessary, repetitive comment on an unnecessary, repetitive overreaction to unnecessary, repetitive overreactions.
But seriously the amount of delays and the hype about the game, and then THAT demo killed my interest completely.
lots of shooters out there....
the problem is that people believe sharing an opinion and overtly hating are the same thing. If they got too much time on their hands they spend it by hating on all which they do not understand or love.
me personally i just look for more to love....
and i aint deciding until i see a demo or review....
Although it looks like i have been shitting on the game from previous comments i was really looking forward to it.
The demo for me personally did nothing to me personally to suggest that it wasnt anything other then a generic FPS.
Sadly given that IGN normally horribly overrate the reviews having such a bad one makes it even worse :(
People forget that the mighty haloes3 was running sub HD, call of duty 4 was running sub hd, not all games run at HD. There are many reasons for the lack of PIXALLZ mostly to do with framerates and anti-alaising but I don't care. Haze has never interested me in the least, although if it picks up decent reviews I may rent it.
With that said, Haze is an extemely generic FPS in a genre that is overflowing with FPS underachievers. I'll pass on this one.
...
The dating game video they did with the Frag Dolls was pretty funny though, and one of the few times I've found an English accent on a woman sexy (although I don't think it was an English accent). Neat way to promote the game. :)
( I know I don't care about Reviews!!!! )
BUT "IGN"-orant gave HAZE a 4.5... Uhh.......
That's Worse than LAIR ( 4.9 ) !
Hate Train is a Full Throttle, NO?
if this was holiday season, and a bunch of other gamers were coming along, and there was more to report on, this would have never surfaced. but, there's nothing else to blog about, site needs traffic. honestly, i didn't think this game was too high on anyones hype meter.
Try moving over here in the UK and say that without trying to be ironic.
I don't think the hate you see here is any different than any other sort of media. How many times did you hear Transformers was going to be shit because Micheal Bay was directing or My Chemical Romance are shit because they are emo. People will always find ways to hate on things just because they aren't excited by the product.
You included my bitchy comment! YAAAAAAY
Yeah, you don't want to completely tap your anonymous internet sources on such trivial decisions, save them for the big stuff. Speaking of which, should I stay at my current job for the promise of the potential promotion, or should I take the new offer? Both offer a pay increase but the promotion pays more. Also, I might not get the promotion while the new position is guarenteed I have to start over on my benefits. Any suggestions?
I'm not one to completely trust reviews either but so far the overwhelming consensus from Metacritic is that the game is extremely mediocre.
I'm going to at least rent it. The nectar thing is fun. If I like it, I'll definitely pick it up for co-op. Fucking love co-op games.
I don't know how you guys got tricked into thinking Haze was gonna be cool in the first place. And no, I didn't even bother to d/l the demo.
Also, hate.
There's really no reason to trash the graphics though, Halo3, COD4, and GTA4 are all sub HD. There's a pretty short list of native HD FPS games that have gameplay that holds up. I can only think of resistance and bioshock of the top of my head and it's a stretch to even call bioshock a FPS.
I may pick it up on sale but that's about it since I'm still working on GTA4 and MGS4 is a couple weeks away.
