Halo 3 already having some problems?
XeroxMe | 4:35 PM on 09.27.2007 17 comments

A lot of posters on Bungie's site have been complaining about Halo 3 disc read errors. Apparently different players are unable to access different things on Halo 3. For instance some are unable to use the Forge, some cannot play certain maps in multi-player, and some can't even play the game. What's going on?

Here's a link: http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=13193500&postRepeater1-p=1

Most of it appears to be concerned around the Multiplayer elements from the game. So its probably the online structure just not being able to cope with the demand, or something.

Sorry to double post, I don't want you to think I'm an ass, but I wanted to try and answer the question.

I have no freaking idea. I haven't heard anything about the game having problems, and alot of those posters had trouble with the single player mode. Maybe older model 360's having trouble reading the disks?

It seems it might be related to the hard drive which I find a little odd...

Its true!

I bought a brand new Halo 3 (regular cheap edition) and loaded the game. Immediately the Xbox tells me that the "disc is unreadable, sisk may be dirty". I clean the disc, which is new and perfect already, and was able to get into the main menu.

First I could not load the campaign map or any multiplayer map. The game tells me "Player failed to load map" and so I open the disc drive and try again.

Now I am able to get in the game, watch the opening cutscene, walk through the forest before the game stops and the "disc is dirty" message pops up again. This happens several more times before I curse loudly and profusely and try turning on and off the console.

Shortly after my console makes a loud grinding noise and im worried I scratched the disc. I open it up, looks fine and try to play again. Now the game doesnt load. "Unplayable Disc" is what it tells me on the desktop. I try putting in Bioshock, Gears of War, and even KOTOR 1+2.
Everything is now an "Unplayable Disc". :(

I think my disc drive is now broken.

So now I am waiting for a box to be sent to me so I can ship my Xbox 360 to be repaired. 3-5 days for the box, and 3-4 weeks for my console. *SIGH!*

Could be something to do with the HDD. Haven't had any DREs yet but it does chug along sometimes when it does the checkpoint save/load thing or when I respawn. Might just be because the HDD I'm using is 21 months old.

The scale of this problem doesn't appear to be too bad, but this still isn't good for Microsoft. They just got back some respect after RRoD was supposedly fixed and now they have to deal with Halo 3 problems.

I really dont get microsoft and the repair system they have... i also dont understand why a single console can cause so much trouble, look at sony, i know it has the other kind of problem like games that suck or no games, but is a more powerfull console without all the xbox360 problems.
