So Sunday at Reitaisai 5(touhou convention) two things were released. The first was the demo of TH11 - Subterranean Animism I talked about in a previous blog post. The demo was interesting but it was a bit disappointing. The character art is better than MoF but still far from IN. The game also is harder, which is good, but the stages miss something and aren't as fun as past games. But, even if it's disappointing so far it's still a touhou project game so it remains amazing.
The second game is the main point of the post. It's the long awaited sequel to TH7.5 - Immaterial and Missing Power. It's a touhou fighting game made by Tasogare Frontier, Tasofro for short, who also made Eternal Fighter Zero and Higarashi Daybreak. The core of the game is basically a bullet hell fighting game. SWR is played in a four button configuration, 2 projectile button, 1 melee and 1 dash. Enemy bullets can be "grazed" by dashing through them or blocked. Here is a video, it'll be ten times better than me explaining the game:
The game also features a story mode(all in Japanese) with slightly different gameplay. Instead of having the standard first to 2 wins, the story mode gives you three lives(on easy) and the cpu has spell card phases. Again here is a video to explain:
The spell cards are when the background changes color and Marisa(the witch in black) repeats the same attack pattern. This is pretty fun and different and standard fighter's story mode. If you played the shmups you'll notice that it works the same way, but 2d fighter style.
Finally, the game as a vs netplay mode. Which means it's online(duh), there is no lobby but IRC is used among the SWR/IaMP community. Go to the SWR wiki for more details. I didn't play online yet because I would get owned and wanted to complete story mode with all character first. If you want to play me just reply to this or PM me. For the game go to doujinstyle(google this). You can also get the demo for Subterranean Animism there.
You should play it anyway, it's awesome even if you only play single player. I played street fighter 2 today and I was constantly trying to dash like in this game haha. Needless to say I got owned, hard. That and the 360 d-pad = worst ever for sf2, or this game. I have a sega saturn pad plugged into a usb adapter on my PC, it's the best controller ever for 2d fighter.
I hoping they add Hong Meiling back in soon, and maybe add another character through a later patch like last time. Its still currently a good game, but the roster leaves me a bit..I dunno...bothered. Nobody from Mountain of Faith!
Yeah, I too was hoping for some character but there is always patches, Mokou plz! Removing China was a bit weird too. Patchouli came back so I'm still satisfied.
I was really surprised Mokou was not included. I though her and Sanae would be shoe-ins, and was also hoping for Yuka. And Hina as well, but China has a better chance of showing back up than the curse goddess has of being included.

Wow. I would get my ass handed to me in this game.

If Topher does like fighting games, I reckon he'd like this.

But yeah, game's awesome.
