Goldeneye 007 Remake On Live Arcade?
Xavier | 9:17 PM on 01.08.2008 6 comments

Has that managed to get your attention?
Good now let's continue shall we?

Rumour has it that there is currently some big legal battle as to who is going to get the Nintendo 64 classic Goldeneye 007. Nintendo want it on the Virtual Console while Microsoft want to put it on Xbox Live Arcade in form of a 10th Anniversary Edition which would feature...

* Flawless recreation of the original gameplay. This is the original code - just running on an Xbox 360.
* Rock solid 60 frames a second.
* All new high def graphics (with the option to switch back to the original N64 graphics any time).
* 4-way online splitscreen multiplayer - see what the other 3 players can see, even over Live!
* New multiplayer maps - play on the single player Dam, Depot or Frigate levels.

Since Rare are no longer with Nintendo the best Nintendo could hope for is getting Goldeneye in form of a direct port to the Virtual Console. Microsoft own Rare so if they get the game they could have Rare update the game since they were the original developers.

What's interesting is that it's believed that Rare were actually working on Goldeneye 007 for Live Arcade but it seems like development has come to a halt. The photo you see above is believed to have come from that Live Arcade remake though I'll leave it up to you the reader to decide if it's fake or real.

What's stopping Goldeneye 007 Live Arcade from coming out then? Well Nintendo is basically saying hell no to such a thing, they want Goldeneye and are willing to fight for it. Let's not forget Activision currently holds the Bond license so they'll have a say in this too.
Nothing of what you read is actually confirmed as of yet but I'm willing to bet it's actually true. Personally I don't think Goldeneye will come to either the Virtual Console or Xbox Live Arcade, I just can't see Nintendo and Microsoft coming to an agreement over this.
I recommend you keep playing the Nintendo 64 original and for the love of god play on 1.2 control settings. Stop using 1.1 and calling the game dated.

I think Antenna should be another multiplayer level if it ends up on Live. You could use a Gameshark and play the full multiplayer version of that on the N64.

Honestly, I don't mind which one this gets put on. That game's classic to play with everyone in the room, not online. The features of the Live one sound a lot more appealing, though.

Microsoft is going to buy Nintendo eventually anyway.

Still somewhat buggy, but damn if it isn't fun once in a while.
